    Bombproof and breathable brain protection.

When you refuse to settle with uncomfortable and stifling helmets that make for sub-par ski days, strap on the Smith Vantage Helmet and experience comfortable protection like never before. Its innovative Hybrid SL shell construction combines Smith's bombshell ABS shell along the top of the helmet, along with a flyweight In-Mold technology around the sides, so you get the perfect fit, without sacrificing an ounce of protection. The new Aerocore Technology covers your dome with four Koroyd inserts, which absorb more energy on impact, while allowing air to pass through while you ride. The AirEvac 2 Ventilation system provides constant airflow by moving cool air through external vents below the brim and pushing warm air out of the 21 vents across the top of your helmet. If you start to get too cold, you can close the vents with the dual regulator at the top of the helmet that's easy to adjust, even with gloves on.

The Vantage provides a superior fit with its adjustable Boa FS360 Fit System, which has a full 360-degree halo design that offers both forward and lateral adjustments. The helmet's Nanosilver performance lining has antimicrobial features that keep the helmet smelling fresh after back-to-back days on the hill. Snapfit SL2 Ear Pads seal around your ears for reliable warmth on cold and stormy days, but can be removed once things heat up.

    Best Ever

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I have gone many years without a helmet that fit right. This one is stylish and extremely comfortable. Bought a second one of a different color and then my wife bought one too which she also loves.

    Comfortable and stylish

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

The time has come that I replace my helmet with a new one. Having tried a few options on the market I was wondering if I should go with something other than the Vantage. But how can you deny a good thing?

This is the most comfortable helmet I have owned. This helmet is light, vents very well, and fits with most goggles on the market. It doesn't hurt that this helmet looks amazing.

    Mother Approved!!

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Picked this up for my mom since she needed a new helmet. So far she seems very happy with it, since she has only had good things to say. She also really likes the color. The adjustable fit system is a great selling point.

Where do I begin? This helmet has been my go to for the past three years for a variety of reasons. I like it most because it performs in a variety of conditions. The low profile vents / air evac ventilation system makes it ideal for mountaineering season in the spring. Depending on the conditions, the snap fit ear pads keep you cool or warm. The boa system makes it easily adjustable, but eventually wore out, like many of the boa systems do. This was my one complaint as I eventually had to replaced the helmet with a new one because the boa system eventually failed. Overall it's light and versatile and gets the job done.

Great, but I have to wear a buff under

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I really like this helmet - the ventilation is awesome and easy to open/close. The boa makes it fit my head well. My only complaint is that the plastic parts that hold the boa wires rub the top of my ears, between my ears and my noggin. Problem solved by wearing a buff underneath, which is probably okay for cleanliness anyway. But then the buff /hat/etc falls down in my eyes. Oh well, such is life.

    Comfortable Helmet

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I have taken the same position when buying all my gear, that is the price tag doesn't matter as long as it fits well and is comfortable. That is no different with this helmet. I tried many different helmets but this is the helmet that just fit and felt well on my head. The only problem I had was my head was borderline large/extra large. I wish they would make these helmets to overlap a little for example, large would be 58-61 cm, and medium would be 60-62 cm.

For anyone wondering, I also have the Oakley Flight Deck goggles and they fit just fine with this helmet.

    A worthy upgrade to a 2012 variant

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Glue had gone bad on my variant brim which has gone back to smith for warranty (great customer service). This replaced the helmet during the wait. It's light, fits right, and the ventilation system is the best I've used. It's great.

Most Technical Helmet on the Market?

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

After riding the Vantage all of last season, I'm back in another one for this year. I've skied in the Smith Maze in the past and I enjoy how lightweight it is, but nothing beats the function of the Vantage. The BOA system inside the helmet shell allows you to dial in the perfect fit, while two sets of vents help you stay cool. This helmet has become my go to while skiing the Snowbird due to the fact that it's super easy to close my vents on the way down, then open them up in the Tram line. If you want a great fitting helmet with some of the best technical features out there, you don't need to look any further.

    Super breathable

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

I recently purchased the Vantage and love it! The ventilation is like no other helmet I have owned. I live in the PNW and it's usually in the upper 20'so to mid 30's when I'm out playing in the mountains. This helmet keeps me from over heating on the uphill treks! The BOA adjustment tightens perfectly in the back and the sides of my head. It is very comfortable. I highly recommend this helmet.

    A true life saver!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

    This helmet saved my life.

Last year I skied off a huge wind lip and ended up crashing into a tree. Thanks to my helmet, the only real injury I sustained was a completely severed achilles tendon. My helmet literally broke in half. The top part of the helmet broke off upon impact into the tree and definitely saved me from head trauma. Unfortunately I forgot to snap a picture of the helmet, but believe me, it was a scary sight to see.

All healed up and ready for another ski season I obviously decided to pick up another Vantage. The fit is extremely comfortable and the vents are amazing. When I get too hot I can open one or both of the sliding vents and keep going for more laps. I have the drop in headphones from Skullcandy and love that I can bump some tunes and still hear whats going on around me. Having skied with earbuds in before, it is definitely nice to be able to hear the runaway snowboarder as he comes screaming up behind me.

I would definitely recommend this helmet to anyone that likes to protect their noggin and needs ventilation to keep from overheating.

    A true life saver!

    best ventilation

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This is great looking helmet, that is lightweight and comfortable. My favorite quality however, is how well it breaths. You can open up the vents on warmer days or when doing short hikes and get the ventilation you need, or if its cold, keep em battened down.

The best I have ever owned.

    • Familiarity:I've used it several times

Love this helmet just skied a few days and was so warm and conformable. I had my headphones in it and the pads come out so there is more room and your ears are not being pushed in like other helmets. Love that feature also the vents work nice I got a little warm and the vents cooled me down for a run or two. It fits perfect.. Love it, Ronnie Lees.

Much improved over several years ago

    • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My previous helmet was a 2013 model which was all hard-shell and it runs exactly 3 oz heavier than this one based on my own scale. A large Variant runs 18 oz. without audio inserts. The main difference between the Vantage and the Variant seems to be the use of Koroyd instead of foam in the top half of the helmet. These sheets of drink sized straws allow for airflow while not sacrificing protection and therefore you can add more vents, which the Vantage has, and they are reportedly better protecting in lower speed impacts and lighter than foam. There are probably other tweaks such as the inside trim, but the two are very close. In the end I chose the Vantage over the Variant due to the 1 oz weight savings because weight was my biggest concern with my old helmet.

The newer BOA system is also much improved as it tightens around the sides of your head where as the older model really just tightened the back 1/3 of your head. This clearly gives a snugger fit. My head is very oval and am a tight large from front to back, but a lose medium from side to side, and this is among the best adjusting helmets that I have tried, and it's far more than just a matter of comfort for me. I would expect this helmet to fit a round head perfectly fine as well, but require much less tightening in of the sides. Between the weight difference and the newer BOA system, the helmet feels much lighter on the head despite having what appears to be the same footprint and the same if not better protection.

Besides my grossly odd head, my head runs very hot and I can sweat profusely from my forehead above 30 degrees in a poorly vented helmet. The venting in the Vantage is unmatched and perfect for the Northeast throughout the season.

It also seems that the Vantage has moved the brim up ever so slightly, and that was an issue with my small face and I/O 7 goggles where they would be pushed down slightly. That's gone now. Not an issue for everyone, but I prefer a tiny gap on top of the goggles to having the helmet push them down on my face.

The last improvement that I noted was a more comfy fit around the sides of the head and the ears, which will mean less air penetration when you do not want it on those cold days. Maybe people with rounder heads never had issues, but there is a plushness difference between the two for me that fills the gap.

The Smith Vantage is a bulkier helmet than many, but considering how much I throw myself around on a board and how many times I knock the back of my head on hard pack, I want a helmet to protect me. I'm amazed at what passes for a premium helmet in many places where they seem to have been trimming the foam in order to reduce bulk, but at what cost? I'm sure my old Vantage saved me from one mild concussion from hard ice that a less bulky helmet would have not protected me from.

So this was a big improvement for me over the 2013 version of the same, and it's probably one of the very best helmets for protection on the market.

    Great fit, no weight!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

This helmet is the bomb-diggity. It's got everything going for it! Looks great, is super comfortable, weighs next to nothing*, and has great ventilation and goggle integration. The Air Evac 2 system is super easy and allows you to independently adjust the front and rear ventilation. The Boa system is super easy to adjust, and it doesn't just adjust the circumference, but the upper-rear of the helmet as well. This leads to a much more customized and comfortable fit. I've had no issues adjusting the helmet with either bare or gloved hands. I haven't taken any full-on runs at trees or moose, but I have taken a spill or two (HEY! Powder is hard for East-Coasters) and this helmet has done a great job of keeping my cranium protected. It's definitely an expensive helmet.... but it's also an awesome one.

Can this helment be used for biking? If not what makes it different from the ones that have that as a recommened use? Thanks.

    Hey Gary!

I would not recommend this helmet for biking. The biggest point is that bike helmets are going to offer a lot more breath-ability. They are also designed for different types of impacts.

Check out the Smith Overtake or the Smith Forefront if you want an awesome bike helmet with similar technology from Smith.

Hit me up if you have any questions or would like to pick up one of those helmets.

Will my OT Chips work with the Variance helmet and, if so, will the chips be easily accessible (in and out) for charging?
