Great Glasses with a glaring weakness
I bought my first pair of Serpico's (1st gen) in 2009 and currently I'm on my fourth pair. My wife liked mine so much that she bought a pair too. The polarized and chroma-pop optical quality is excellentt, the toric lens curvature is beyond reproach, the novel nose-piece design is tops. I think these are the most finely styled aviators on the market. Ever better than my WWII pilot grandfathers mil-issued Ray Bans! But, the ear piece, temple piece... hinge interface is poorly designed. Hence why I'm on my fourth pair in 14 years. They eventually wear out or just break, I know this four times first hand. I've been round and round with Smith CS many times regarding this and I assure you I take very good care of my glasses. If they aren't on my face they're in their case. So goodby Smith Serpico's, I'm done. I'll dearly miss the Serpico's but these glasses deserve a redesigned (better) frame that that will hold up better to being worn daily. Spring temples anyone? I'll keep watch for Serpico III's. Until then I'm going to try some competitors wares.
