Why We Like The Santa Cruz Heckler SL R E-Bike

Extended trail rides or doing laps in steeper terrain, the Santa Cruz Heckler SL e-Bike is our weapon of choice when we need an enduro bike that can go the distance. The Santa Cruz Heckler SL S e-Bike looks and rides like a traditional bike but has the power boost of an e-Bike, thanks to its new lightweight drive system that knocks the weight down considerably. The Fauza60 drive unit gives us 60Nm of torque, a 430Wh battery, and a range similar to full-power e-Bikes in a compact and quiet package that weighs around 10 pounds less than a traditional e-Bike. This means we can have a bike that looks, feels, and handles like the legendary Santa Cruz bike we know and love but still have the power to extend our rides and go faster and further than ever before. The Heckler SL has the same platform as the original Santa Cruz Heckler and sports 150mm of the renowned VPP suspension for optimal small bump sensitivity and a plush ride. Although this may seem like just a lighter-weight version of the same old Heckler, Santa Cruz updated the geometry to make the Heckler SL more capable. With a slacker head tube angle, steeper seat tube angle, longer reach and wheelbase, shorter chainstays, and a shorter standover height, the Heckler SL is redesigned to be more agile and capable to pair with its more nimble chassis. A slacker head tube angle of 64.3 degrees allows us to be more confident on steep terrain, and a steeper seat tube angle of 77.5 degrees positions us more upright for better climbing efficiency. The integrated chainstay and downtube protectors keep our frame looking fresh, and a shock fender keeps mud spray from the back tire off our rear suspension. For the bigger and steeper days, we use the flip chip in the rear shock link to make the Heckler SL even longer, lower, and slacker for more confidence in steeper and faster terrain.

The R build of the Santa Cruz Heckler SL is fitted with reliable and quality components that don't come in at a hefty price tag. First up, this build uses Santa Cruz's Carbon C frame, which is built to the same standards as their more premium Carbon CC frame but at a slightly higher weight penalty. Next, the SRAM NX Eagle 12-speed drivetrain gives us a huge gear range and a reliable component spec to keep us cranking through those technical climbs. A Fox Float Performance rear shock has great small bump sensitivity, while the RockShox Lyrik Select, 160mm fork handles the big hits up front. WTB ST i30 TCS 2.0 alloy rims provide us with the performance and durability we need in a cost-friendly package. to wrap it up, premium Maxxis tires give us high-performing enduro tires that throw don tons of grip on steep descents.

*Due to a high demand in the global supply chain and bike industry since the start of the pandemic, material weight and exact components are subject to change. We are working diligently to keep tech specs updated, and any adjustments will be of equal or better spec level. Best E bike hands down

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Cant believe I'm the first person to review this bike .Been Riding it since late October. This is my 3rd Ebike Norco Sight VLT (mod to a MX) . Scor 4060Z LT Previously . Tested Knevo SL ,Buillet and regular Heckler .Other bike I own currently Santa Cruz Nomad V4 also Well to break it down , If your a biker you don't need a full power ebike and carry extra 10# lbs. Im wiped out 4hrs of riding with the SL and will never go back to full power . Yes your not going to get there twice as fast but your going to get there and coming down its where it changed my mind. The nimbleness and quick response, poppy playful is what's missing the 10 extra # feels like .Yes the Knevo Sl had the more plush but felt more dead and the range was noticeable. (smaller batt and power). Im 175# rider freeride/lots of jumps and full speed down . If your out of shape and need the the extra power than this might not be for you. Oregon area POST CANYON /SANDY RIDGE The only downside to the bike is the price( R spec ) and that you aren't to be on your analog bike that much anymore.
