Lightweight warmth.

The Rab Women's Microlight Alpine Down Jacket keeps you warm and cozy whether you’re belaying during an alpine climb, skiing in the backcountry, or commuting across town. The Pertex Microlight face fabric is extremely lightweight and durable, and the nylon lining prevents moisture from seeping in. Even though this jacket is protected with a DWR coating, it’s surprisingly breathable and soft to the touch.

Insulated with 750-fill Nikwax hyrophobic goose down, the Microlight Alpine jacket provides toasty heat with a trim fit that leaves room for layering—this includes the down-filled hood with its wired peak. And since the jacket has a mini stitch-through baffle construction, your body heat stays where it needs to and it easily packs away into your backpack.

Didn't like the hood

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

Overall I liked this jacket; the outer fabric seemed very durable, as well as water resistant, and it fit trimly, but was large enough so I could wear a base layer and microfleece under it. With 5 oz of down fill, I bought this jacket because it was supposed to be one of the warmest on the market, which was a priority for me. However, the hood has a brim, and instead of elastic around the face it has pull cords to tighten the hood around the face. I did not like the pull cords in my face at all. The brim got in the way when I tried this on under a waterproof shell with a hood/brim. Also, this jacket does not compress down very small; it was about the size of two Nalgene bottles placed side by side. It is also much heavier than other "ultralight" puffies. I ultimately returned it for the Arcteryx Cerium LT, which I love!
