Toasty digits amidst the world's harshest weather.

The world's coldest temperatures and most extreme conditions require the use of the Rab Expedition Mitten. Saying these mittens are heavily insulated is a gross understatement. Featuring 850-fill goose down, the Expedition Mitten keeps your digits toasty when you explore the world's highest peaks and polar regions.

Featuring a Pertex Endurance shell, these gloves provide total protection from howling winds and snow. Hard-wearing nylon throughout high abrasion areas ensures long-lasting use. A removable inner pile glove allows you to remove the insulated outer shell without freezing your fingers off when extra dexterity is required, and to facilitate speedier drying when you come in from the snow and cold. The one-handed shock cord conveniently secures the mitten's gauntlet-style closure around your jacket cuff for an impenetrable fortress against the elements.

  • Hard-wearing nylon in high-abrasion areas

Warm enough for Denali

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Bought these for a recent trip up Denali. Stayed warm in wind chills in the -80's. No complaints.

Not just a summit Mitt...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

So this last winter in CO, we had a few weeks where the mercury dropped. I do a lot of winter ascents mostly skinning, mixed in with some technical. These gloves have saved my digits a few times on a few of these days when we had temps down to -35. I usually don't let weather dictate what activities I am going to do for the day. Being from Minnesota and Wisconsin, you learn to dress for the weather. So these gloves became my closest and dearest companion during extreme winter weather. The gloves have a removable fingered liner, which is soft and roomy enough to get my hands in and out easily during clothing changes and transitions. The fill around the glove is the warmest I have ever worn. Not once did my fingers get cold even during the long (standstill) pauses. That is saying a lot for someone who has digital circulation problems. I got these in an XL, and would suggest sizing up from your normal size, because they will give you more R factor bang for your buck. You create more heat when your hands are not constricted so would not go tight on these. The pertex can become water logged with lots of snow exposure, so keep in mind they are not waterproof, but in conditions that are cold enough to warrant their use, believe me my friend that is unlikely and the least of your worries. The palm material is strong and durable so they are not as weak as the back of the hands. The material in this glove is thick, but you can still palm some poles and swing some tools with no problems. All in all this is one of the best altitude mitts I have ever tried and would highly suggest giving them a try.
