You can't climb everyday, or can you?

The prAna Stretch Zion Men's Short would prefer to spend the summer hiking and climbing, but like you, it'll tolerate a few down days in the city. It's four-way stretch fabric delivers mobility and quick-drying comfort, while abrasion-resistant nylon withstands the abuse the comes with long rocky scrambles and brushy approaches through brambles.

My family has been die hard converted to Prana so I got these for my brother. He absolutely loves them just as much as he loves the pants.

    The material is magical

They hold up well, look super sharp (I don't think the pictures do them justice) and are ridiculously comfortable.

In 100% honesty and seriousness, if you are looking for a camp/hike short look no further. These are amazing!

Hands down the best piece of clothing I have ever bought. It feels as if you aren't even wearing shorts, but clouds. The size stays very true in addition to the multiple ways it can form to fit your size perfectly, (adjustable belt, stretch, etc). The multi access pocket is probably what helps make Prana so successful. I never knew how much I was missing out on until I got a pair. I wear mine nearly everyday as they look amazing and perform better than any other pair of shorts. For climbing and even skateboarding, (as well as everything else I do) these live up to the hype. Durable, Comfortable, Appealing. I can't think of any cons except the fact that you forget you aren't actually wearing clouds.

As good as all the reviews suggest...

Lightweight, comfortable, stretchy enough for outdoors activities and smart enough for meals out. Glad I bought two pairs.

I'm 5'9" and 150 lbs - 32" x 12" fits perfectly. The built in belt allows you to adjust as necessary through the day.

    Great fit, style and comfort

These are my new favorite shorts - gone are the days of ill-fitting, cheap cotton department store cargo shorts. I particularly like the lack of velcro on these shorts. One of the rear pockets has a flap that will reasonably keep things in there. The single thigh pocket is easy to get to with 2 locking zippers. The shorts fit a little on the snug size but because the material stretches slightly, they are very comfortable. I just ordered the Zion pants based on how well these work and fit.

So good I bought a second pair

Seriously this is the perfect pair of shorts. They breathe, they stretch, they dont get dirty easily, they dry fast, they got secret zip up pockets. Just buy it.

    Fav shorts-period.

I've now got 5 pair of these shorts counting 3 pair of the original that were sized in the small/md/lg type sizing rather than the new sizes differentiated by inches (waist). I've got several other similar style shorts form outdoor research and mammut. I absolutely like these the best--length is just above knee. Fabric is heavy enough to take some abuse (I wear these mountain biking and bikepacking sometimes and they take a thrashing before a hole gets ground in them) but light enough to dry out fast when playing in the water. Unlike some of the competitors shorts, the wallet pocket has a stitched flap forcing you (or a thief) to manipulate the pocket a little to get the wallet out--this is great for travel because nobody can get at your wallet without you knowing about it. Zipper thigh pocket is another secure place for valuables as your out and about. True to size. Has belt loops but you don't really need them as the front cinch strap works great to snug things up a little.

    Great shorts

I love these shorts. I have two pairs and I also have the long pants version. The best part of these pants is fit. I always have trouble finding pants that fit me and feel good to climb in, so these are a godsend.

    Theses shorts are fab!

I own three. Durability, weight, comfort. My go to for shorts all summer. I would highly suggest and get rid of all your cotton cargo shorts.

    Colors are not accurate

I ordered the Blue Indigo color and what I received was the Blue Ridge. The actual Blue Ridge color is a light blue if you look at Prana's website. The Blue Indigo must be a color just for Backcountry because no one else has it. So be advised that if you order Blue Indigo you will receive the Blue Ridge and if you want the Blue Ridge look at Prana's website for accurate color depiction. Shorts are great but not the right color!

      Extremely comfortable...........

Searched for a comfortable/attractive active pair of shorts and happily found Zion. This is the finest product I own.....purchased 3 pair and rave about the fit/function. Gusset/crotch vents make this a perfect go-to garment hiking or around town. Launders nicely and always looks good!!

      Only the best!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

These are great hands down. Lightwieght, breathable and they are form fitting and will move comfortably with no restrictions. I own these as shorts and a pair of the convertible pants both models are impressive! Great for biking, yoga, hiking.... EVERYTHING. Get yourself a pair!

      Awesome work shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size

The long and short of it is, that these shorts are pretty amazing! The reason I purchased these was that my work allows us to wear shorts, but the shorts must be black. Sure I could probably buy three pairs of Dickies for the same price but Dickies are not that comfortable - plus they're hot.

While I would prefer Patagonia (brand loyalty), this is my first Prana purchase, and I'm a happy camper. I might buy a second pair after I give these some more use. So far, for work, these shorts are fantastic and if I quit my job in the future I can always re-purpose them into hiking shorts, so it is a win-win! No complaints here aside from the cinch strap. The strap might be useful for some people but seriously its like using a cellphone to take photos and expecting digital SLR camera results - just buy a belt! In conclusion, the shorts are great, so cool, even when working outside in 90-100 degree heat and so far seem to be quite durable.

      Quality short

The short is comfortable and extremely light-weight. Quality is there for sure and the stretch fabric allows me to use this short for mountain biking, which when picked up on sale is half the price of most quality MB shorts. At 5'8" 160 lbs, this short extends a inch past my upper calves. If there was a 9" or shorter version, I'd have every color and use for everyday wear as the comfort is unmatched.

      Great Short

I like this short a lot. Prana stuff is well made and it is durable. The only complaint I have is that it feels ever so slightly long. Hangs just below or at the knee. Other than that it is just what I wanted.

      Great hiking shorts

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Comfortable? Check. A little stretchy? Check. Great, easy to access pockets. Yep. I bought two pairs of these shorts and they are the best hiking shorts I've owned. Great for just wearing around also. Fabric is stretchy but tough enough to scramble around on rocks, etc... Embarrassing but true fact -- they get really dark when wet so if you get a bit sweaty on the trail it will show.

      Number One Spot

These things take the number one spot on every podium for all shorts of every type. Seriously, no other shorts compare to these. They're breathable, perfectly stretchy and the fit is so right. I fell in love with the stretch Zion pants and decided to give the shorts a try and they reign just as supreme. They do fit a bit big though! I normally wear a 32 and the 30 in these still has some room around the waist.

        Unanswered Question

        color?
I ordered a pair in the indigo color and they look just like the blue ridge color from the photo. Are there two colors of blue, because mine are not indigo?

I love my size medium Zions, and they fit perfectly, but now they've gone to numerical sizing....do I want a 32 or 33 waist in the new regime?

I have the Prana Stretch Zion pants (love em) in small and they're still a little big, have to cinch the belt a little. I normally wear 30x30 pants, just wanted to know if the XS shorts would be TOO small. Any ideas?

Are any of the pockets zippered and if so, which ones? Is the belt removable?

The left side pocket is zippered (twice, actually, one facing up and one facing front - which is handy depending on if you are sitting or standing). The belt is not removable but it's very small and only shows in the front. Completely unobtrusive.

Can someone help me figure out my size, please? I wear the Prana Axiom jean in size 34 waist and 34 inseam. Some folks say these run large and some say these Zion shorts run small...

Can someone help me out? Do I need a Medium or a Large?

        Thanks!!

Kurt. Another Kurt here. I wear the Axiom 34 x 34 and the Theorem 34 x34. I have two pair of the Zion shorts, and both are Large. Fit the same as the 34 x 34 jeans. Measured the waist band with a tape measure, and they were identical +/- 0.25".

Just received a pair in Medium (my waist measures 33in over my underwear) and they are clearly too big. I can fit 2-3 finger widths in between but I can make them fit with the nifty built in belt. Is it worth exchanging for the a Small? The sizing chart shows a two inch difference in the waist. If it matters the Prana Mojo Mediums I ordered fit me perfectly. Thanks!

I wear a 28-29 short/jean. Will the small fit me? It's SO hard finding climbing clothing for my size!

        Mrwp269247,

        I know your pain.

I too have problems not just with climbing clothing, but with basically all clothing, as my waist sits right at that 28-29in mark.

That being said, I would go with the XS, I think the S would still be a bit too large for your waist, and you would probably have issues with the fit, as well as making them stay on while on the wall.

I've included a size chart I found on prAna's website, and according to them, you want to take your waist measurement and subtract 2" from that to determine what "prAna size" to get.

I notice that BC doesn't have any of that size in stock currently, so I would recommend chatting with a gear rep to see if they can find out when they will be receiving more sizes of the XS, if you do decide to go that route.

        Good luck, hope this helps.

How true to sizing are these? I wear 31's in most shorts/pants. The sizing chart shows S to be 30" whereas M is 32-33". Obviously, I fall in between. Don't want too baggy but I don't want my range of motion restricted either. Any help would be appreciated.

I wear a size 38" or XL in Kuhl, Outdoor Research,Mountain Hardwear and Patagonia. I just bought a pair of these in XL and although they fit, they're tighter than all others I have. I'm going to exchange for an XXL or more likely O.R. Ferrosi shorts which fit perfectly at XL.

What is the color like on the charcoal? This site shows a black color, another site shows a lighter gray color. Thanks for any responses.
