My wife & I are full time guides and have tries all kinds of hydration systems. Nothing compares to the reliability and flexibility of using this Tube Kit with 1L Platy bottles. We keep our water bottles in the side pockets of our pack, so we don't have to dig to get at them. One bottle has a drinking spout & the other this tube kit. I have used the same bit valve for years with no leaks or issues. Clean up is easy. Get the 90 degree shut off valve and the system is perfect.

Will the cap screw on to a standard 20 oz water bottle? What is the diameter of the cap?

Platypus caps are the same size as standard plastic bottle caps. You will have trouble drinking out of a 20 oz bottle with this hose because the bottle isn't flexible enough. As you drink the water, it will create a vacuum inside the bottle that will keep the water in.

Bought a couple of the 1L Platypus soft bottles as an alternative to using traditional hydration bladder. Also bought this hydration tube kit that allows you to use these bottles just like a hydration bladder. I like the simplicity and the fact that as bottles they are easy to fill and are collapsible. Stuff them in my pack and use with the hydration tube they are just like my old hydration bladder but better! I'm definitely going to be using this system at the Barkley Marathons later this year representing the Wasatch Speed Goat Mountain Racing Team.

One of the reasons I purchased PlatyBottles was because I wanted to be able to have the ability to remove the hose from the bottles and this works perfectly. I haven't had any issues with leaking (at the screw-cap) or other problems.

If you need a new tube for your Platypus, this is what you need. The best part is the lapel clip so the tube isn't flopping all over the place as you hike or ride. Highly recommend.

The blue bite valve has a clear covering over it. The space in between them is a breeding ground for mold/mildew.And before anyone starts commenting, I've only ever used water with my platypus bottles/tubes, and I usually keep them stored in the fridge when they aren't in use.Great idea, poor execution.

Also, the valve itself requires a bit of "finesse" to it- you can't just chomp down, you have to delicately pinch at just the right amount of pressure.

I've used everything from cheap wally world bladders up to camel back and I love the bite valve on this drinking tube! Platypus is the way to go!

Can the entire drinking tube attachment be removed? I was hoping to be able to directly attach my Katadyn Hiker Filter output hose to the attachment that screws onto the bottle.

Thanks!

Yes it can be removed. The lid attachment is just attached with some plastic barbs that slide into the tube. With some effort you will be able to pull it out.

Does the bite valve disconnect?

Does the bite valve disconnect?

Yes, you can pull it off. There's actually another accessory, called the 'elbow' attachment that has a shut-off valve that allows the bite valve to be more ergonomic and be shut-off while packing it in the car, etc. The bite valve is meant to come off to allow for these add-ons.
