We all do it, but now when you find that weeks (ok, months) old full reservoir in your bag, you can use the Platypus Cleaning Kit to mend your misdoing. The big brush cleans out the reservoir itself, while the tiny brush scrubs out the drinking tube. Here's a tip if it's super-funky: fill the whole deal with water, then add a denture tablet. Wait fifteen, then scrub and rinse approx. one billion times until the old lady smell is gone.
Bottom Line: Cleanliness is next to godliness, which lives next door to hydration.

Nothing too fancy, but it cleans the bladder and the tube really well. I haven't had any problems with odor or mildew or anything after using this with my Platypus.

I have been using platys for 10 years and never had a cleaning kit. Finally got one and i am glad i did!
(Two other questions:) What would you recommend using to clean
(Two other questions:) What would you recommend using to clean out the bag and tube with(Dish Soap?),and often should these units be cleaned out? There was no instructions that came with the new kit.... Thank you

I use a little dish soap in a sink and let it soak for a bit. Then I scrub them out with the tools and rinse them very well. If possible I let them dry in the sun. If you are cleaning a hose, I use the long brush and rinse as well, but I take it outside and whirl it around a few times to get the big drops of water out of there. i would clean it out after ever 3-4 uses, anytime it sits for more than a day after use, any time you put something other than water in it, and before using it after a long period of storage.

Strangely enough, I have had the best luck with a little bit of lemon juice mixed with the water and then rinsed. I clean mine after 3 uses or every couple weeks, whichever comes first.

Don't think just buy it. If you have ever had a bladder sitting in your pack you know how hard it is to really get it clean. You have to have the tools to get that stench and taste out...and these are the tools

This cleaning kit works great for the platypus 1L bottle. The brush easily gets to all parts of the bag, except at the top immediately under the opening. The small tube brush is perfect for cleaning the inside of normal drinking straws that I reuse.

Are you asking because the tube brush won't make the bend? Easiest way is to disconnect it and brush from both sides - the tube side and the open side. You'll have to pull the mouthpiece off, but that's not too hard.

If you drink a lot in the mountains and use water systems whatever which one (I use Platypus and Osprey) this kit is thing to go for - really works and helps to maintain in good conditon water containers !!!

No matter how much I tried to clean my system after use, I still got mold growing in the tube and sack. This was the perfect solution for a decent price (compared to the camelbak cleaning kit, this is a better buy).
The pipet-like brush worked like a charm. It fit perfectly in the tube and came right out along with all the mold.
The only suggestion I have is if Platypus made some device to hold the sack opening open (like the camelbak kit), because it takes several days for the sack to dry.

Just got the Platy 1 and 2l bottles so they didn't need cleaning.
Had a Blackhawk that needed cleaning and got the job done easily with the "Right tool"

I actually bought this to clean out my 1L water bottles - it works like a charm. Definitely a worthwhile purchase.

Thank goodness for the tube cleaner! I've been having problems with mold developing in the tube, near the mouth piece and this kit completely got rid of it. The larger brush is also great to get out any left over Nuun or Gu slime.
