Nice fleece, but runs small.

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

Ordered the fleece for my daughter, but didn't realize it is a "slim" fit. Although she usually needs a medium, a medium was too small. Disappointed that it wasn't clear when I ordered that the fleece was a "slim" fit. I would have ordered a large. Unfortunately, there are no larges in stock now in the color she wants. Other than running small, it's a great fleece.

A Great Piece for Any Outdoor Collection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

Size Reference: Female, broad-ish shoulders; 5' 4.75", 110 pounds, Chest ~34A. Normally take a size 0 and XS/S in clothes and dresses. I have this fleece in an XS.

BOTTOM LINE (... at the top): I generally adore this fleece. I've had it for about 3 years now, and I've found that it can be worn for days straight, and it still looks nice and fresh. Even after a few years, it still looks almost new with moderate use (heavy use during the winter, occasional use while camping in chilly nights in the summer).

FIT: For ordering the right size, I would suggest first determining what kind of look you're going for. I didn't want to look like I was swimming in the fleece; I wanted a slightly structured look, so I got the XS.

CONS: The XS looks nice, but I wish it had more stretch. It slightly compromises my range of motion when I want to do activities that require a lot of movement, and my midriff peeks through, which has been a little bothersome since I have to pair it with the right layers underneath (ones that go well past the top of my hips). For me, this fleece does not withstand cold gusts of wind (especially coming up from the bottom since it's a bit short); it seems like it goes right through the fabric (UNLIKE Patagonia's Synchilla version). However, if it's not too windy, this jacket keeps me super toasty.

PROS: Apart from it keeping me warm when it's not too windy, or extra toasty as a layer underneath a shell or down coat, it is definitely comfortable as a lounging piece. The fabric feels really nice on my skin, and the little hint of shine is a nice complement to an outdoorsy, more tomboy-ish piece of clothing. Because I was going for the more structured look, I really love the collar and the shoulders which have kept their shape wonderfully. The collar does not droop even after years of wearing it while hanging out, doing climbing warm-ups, sleeping in it while camping, & hiking (and walking my dog, of course!). Another good piece from a fantastic company.

What is the center back length of a medium?

Love it!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

In the words of a friend whom I purchased this for as a gift:
I've used this fleece a few times up rock climbing and have worn it around town. The fleece is very warm and great to throw on after climbing and when belaying my partner. I love the front pocket. Great for quickly warming up my hands! I've also found this looks really cute with a pair of jeans when running around town.

Love This Classic

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I'll admit my love affair with Patagonia freely. Their stuff is awesome and hasn't disappointed me yet through a LOT of heavy use. This fleece is no exception.

The re-tool fleece is a really nice thick, high pile fleece that does NOT shed. The colors are vibrant and there is a great selection. The fleece itself is warm and cozy. I've used it in a variety of situations but my favorite has always been on boats - this is a great weight to block some wind and be warm after scuba diving or free-diving in cooler waters or pop on at the end of a long day on deck when the sun goes down.

This is true to size and consistent with other patagonia products. The fit is somewhat roomy and the cut is straight.

I absolutely love this product. My only complaint is that my first is so good, I have no need in the future to buy another one!

Cute and cozy.

I bought this jackey this past spring, and it quickly became my favorite fleece. It's slightly bulky, not great for layering underneath other jackets but I mostly wear it on its own with a light wool layer and am kept plenty warm even on chilly spring mornings (and I am always cold!). It's a very soft style of fleece, less like TNF Denali jacket and more like Mountain Hardwear monkey fleeces. Originally I bought the blue color but when it arrived it was a little too fluorescent for my taste. So I returned it, and instead went with the gray with purple trim and am quite pleased. I wear a medium in most shirts/jackets and this was no different.

Awesome!

Super warm fleece and has more of a feminine shape. It is a tad bit of a weird fit, I did go up to a medium due to the small being a bit snug, but I easily could have gotten away with the small (just too short for my height)

Patagonia Fleece Pullover

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Just love Patagonia products and when I saw this Fleece Pullover, I ended up buying three of them. I wear the heck out of Fleece clothing (live in the cold climes of Gunnison, CO) be it for skiing or being at home. This Re-tool Snap is true to size, great colors, washes wonderfully and keeps me toasty warm.

Bought the grey with the purple. Great color, goes with everything, warm and looks great. What more can you ask for?

Great mid weight fleece

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I bought the Viking Blue, which is a gorgeous royal blue color. Based on reviews, I bought the medium, which just fits with a tee underneath. It is a slim fit, so it would be snug if layered with anything heavier. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the hem of the piece as it is more gathered than hanging straight. In all, a great fleece for casual wear and very soft.

great mid layer!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

If you are looking for an awesome mid layer or just a great around town sweater THIS IS IT! I love wearing this around the house, office and even for skiing on really cold days. It is truly a versatile sweater. I have heard some concerns about Patagonia's fit and I normally wear a small but I ordered the Medium just because I like my sweaters to fit loose. If you order the small the sweater fits really slim and ends right at the hip. My measurements are 5'4", 115 lbs. and 34 in the chest. This is a great sweater and I would recommend it to anyone that needs or wants a comfy reliable sweater.

Medium fits me perfectly!( 4'11" & 132lbs) I have Boot Camp outside in a park YEAR ROUND. I am 65 & needed a warmer thicker fleece! This one is perfect & has an extra pocket on the chest!

Love this Fleece

I originally purchased the Re-tool fleece for a trip to London last January and am so glad I did. I lived in them while I was over there, and stayed nice and toasty wearing them under my wool peacoat.

They're a good piece for mid-layering if it's really cold out, or over a t-shirt on mild days. My only issue with wearing them as a mid-layer is that they can run a little bit big (just a little, not enough to say it's bigger than expected), so it takes some adjusting to make them comfortable under a shell.

I'm 5'7" and 137lbs to 142lbs with a longer torso and both the small and medium fit just fine. If you want a relaxed fit, I'd go with the medium.

Responded on

Just wondering where the fleece hits length wise on you? I'm 5' 7" too, but these seemed shorter on me than on the model in photo. I have one from a few years ago and was hoping they got longer.

Responded on

The medium hits at about my hips, while the small hits higher (not quite at the waist). I went and tried this fleece on at a local store before ordering the color I wanted online, just to be sure I'd like the fit.

This is my cold weather "uniform"...

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have this in several colors. I wear them all winter long, both casually and on the slopes. Well worth the $ as I have had mine for years.
-washes well, doesn't pill (I don't dry mine)
-super soft, comfy, and warm
-looks great, lays nicely and not bulky or short
-I am 5'8, 135lbs with long arms and can wear a sm or med, not much of a difference between the two sizes
-works well as a layer on cold mountain days too
