Here's what others have to say...

Sooooo soft!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I <3 this fleece! It's the softest piece of clothing I own. It's amazing! It's not super warm, but makes a great fall jacket and is a great layering piece. I would say, if you are between sizes, go down. I'm 5"5', 105 lbs, 30x25x36 and an XS fits perfectly.

Little Baggy....

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am 5'8", 160lbs, athletic build. I bought the Large so I would be comfortable...well...it's definitely comfortable. I sort of feel like I am swimming in it. I will say that it is very warm! I wear it to work a lot over my dress shirts and even in 55 degree weather it keeps me warm. I like that the sleeves have a different material (more durable). I notice things that I wear in the office tend to wear on the elbows because of my desk. I live in Los Angeles so it doesn't get terribly cold, this gives me a nice option when there is a little crispness in the air. Also very good for layering under a jacket when I am in colder climates on trips. Just wish I would have ordered a medium....

Iffy quality

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I love, love this little fleece and wanted to rationalize keeping it. But the soft pile is sparse and looked like it would wear away after only a few wearings and washings. I wasn't willing to risk it since it's expensive. I ordered another thinking it might've been a defect, but same story. The trim around the bottom of the jacket also puckered... guess where...right at the top of my butt. Not flattering.

Great Mid Layer

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got the R2 after talking with people from the Patagonia store about what to wear under my Troposphere jacket to help keep me warm, but wasn't bulky. They recommended the R2, and I'm so happy with this purchase!

If you wear it on it's own it lets a lot of wind in, but great for spring and fall. I'm 5'7" and 140lbs and got the size Small because I wanted a more close-fitting mid layer to go over my base layer.

Super Soft and Cuddly Comfy!!

I LOVE this jacket from Patagonia! It is very comfortable, light weight and soft...perfect for everyday wear. And the color is the perfect shade of green!

Is this jacket as warm as a regular...

Is this jacket as warm as a regular fleece?

Responded on

Fleece comes in a lot of different weights, so "regular fleece" can have a lot of different warmths. The point of the fabric on the R2 is that it provides more warmth for less weight. The fabric has a higher loft, which means that under a rain jacket or something, it'll be much warmer than a regular fleece of the same fabric weight, but by itself, it's not at all wind resistant. So potentially, it could be warmer, but it depends how you wear it.

at peace in my fleece

got a medium patagonia r2 fleece in black, 5'3, 132lbs. What can I say except I love it. It's warm, light weight. I wear in inside at work or when I am out at the bar, and I don't get a chill when I am outside. I wear it as a layering peace underneath my goretex when i go skiing. It looks good, i get complements on it all the time because it has a nice slim fit instead of a boxy look you get with other fleece jackets. The material has some stretch to it and the cut is so that when you raise your arms or bend your elbows it doesn't pull on the rest of your jacket. Medium is not too bulky, so it's easy to layer underneath other jackets, but because it has some stretch you could probably throw a few underwear layers or vest underneath. I'll post a photo later.

Love it!

I absolutely love my new jacket! I got it in the lime green and the color is awesome. It fits very nicely and true to size too. I always get a small in shirts and jackets, which is what I ordered here, and it is perfect/ It is also light weight but warm at the same time. I reccomend this jacket to anyone who is considering buying it!

Great addition to the active life

I had a Mountain Hardware Monkey Jacket, which was warm but a little full in the body. This jacket is a similar fabric, but cut closer to the body, light & wonderfully warm. I'll use it hiking, biking and skiing.
It works beautifully with the H2No rain jacket, too.

Great layering piece...

I'm updating my original review. The first R2 I ordered fit very poorly. I sent it back, but then later got to thinking that maybe I just got a defective one, so I ordered another one. The fit was better, and I kept it. This jacket fits smaller than other Patagonia fleeces. It's a slim fit as advertised. The sleeves are just barely long enough for me, and the length is not quite as long as I'd like, but I ordered it for function, not style. As it is, it will make a nice, trim, packable layering piece. I plan to wear it under a puffy jacket and a Gore-Tex shell when traveling on my motorcycle, and I will also use it as an insulating layer when backpacking and camping. It's fairly light, yet warm, and since it's a trim cut, it's quite packable. If you're looking for a functional layering piece, this is a great choice. If you're looking for a nice looking fleece jacket for casual wear, I'd choose the Patagonia Re-Tool Jacket or the Arcteryx Covert Cardigan, as both are better looking than the R2.
