Description

The ultimate winter jacket.

When the Polar Vortex rips through your town, you'll be glad you have the awesomely updated Women's Down Sweater Jacket from Patagonia to fend off frigid temps and arctic blasts. Lightweight and compressible 800-fill down comes from happy geese (never force-fed, never live-plucked) to fill out this form-flattering jacket, and the down's even traceable if you need proof. Down keeps this jacket lightweight and compressible, making it perfect for everything from wearing under a shell while you ski, to stashing in your hiking pack for spare warmth, to just wearing around town on chilly nights.

Recycled polyester ripstop won't let the day-to-day bumps and snags unravel you or the jacket. The DWR finish repels snow and rain so flakes and droplets simple slide off the jacket's surface. Horizontal baffles are sewn through to prevent the down from shuffling around. Two zippered hand pockets hold your goods, be it sunscreen and lipbalm, candy and jerky, or a smartphone and credit cards. With a slightly more sleek shape and robust (yet lightweight) fabrics, the revised Down Sweater Jacket protects you from the cold and wind, wherever life takes you.

  • Ripstop fabric
  • DWR coating
  • 800-fill Traceable down insulation
  • Packs into own pocket
  • Contoured fit
  • Adjustable hem
  • Internal stuff sack pocket

This jacket is seriously bomb!
When buying a down jacket, I would never recommend going any lower than 800 fill down quality.
Understand, these jackets are incredibly light weight. They do not warm you up instantly . The technology of down, is to maintain and hold in the warmth that you already create.
Goose down isn't always white. If you get a light colored jacket, the darker colored down feathers can show through the fabric, making it look like there are spots. I personally don't think it is a big deal, but it kinda gives off a dirty look.
I love the cut and length on this jacket too! People always worry about looking like the Micheline Tire guy. Still puffy, but also flattering.
Note: When you purchase a down jacket, down does come out sometimes. Don't worry, this is normal. Unless it is coming out in large quantities is there need to worry.

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Women's

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 5"
    Weight: 125 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

Loved, loved, loved my Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket!!! Last year I ordered a small down sweater jacket and it fit perfectly but this year it ran small so I had to reorder a size medium. After getting the medium jacket I laid my last year's small jacket over the medium jacket and it was the same size. So order a size up. The service was exceptional!!!! They were great with the exchange! Cathy

Jacket

Great jacket!! Can't go wrong with this!! Lightweight and pack able, leaves room in your suitcase for other things!! We all like that! Ladies, it's not cut to our curves so it runs boxie, more square then form fitting. Keep that in mind for sizing. I originally ordered a large and since it was boxie I returned it and got a medium. Better fit!!

Is the Cochineal Red truly red or more orange-y? It's hard to tell from the photo.

Riva,
I feel like Cochineal is a pretty solid red, maybe with a touch of orange too it but not too much.

I bought this as a gift for my mother, and she absolutely loves it. She lives in Oklahoma, where the weather is fairly moderate, however there are times when the cold is bone chilling. She swears by this jacket during those times, and in many others. As far as comfort goes, you absolutely cannot beat this jacket, it's almost not fair. You don't feel like you're wearing anything at all, but somehow you stay warm, it's great. Great product that will last the test of time!

Weird fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 5"
    Weight: 147 lbs
    Size Purchased: M/L

I cannot attest to wear or warmth-never made it that far, though I did find a feather trying it on and that concerned me a bit. First, props to Backcountry for their return policy! I ordered a M and it was a bit snug in the hips with snow pants on and when I zipped it up all the way the zipper did this weird indent thing leaving a pressure point on my chest. I am not that big chested for that to have been the cause. So I ordered the large (came in under 48 hours) and it was HUGE (with same zipper issue). If you think you are between sizes and do not have wide hips, then size down. I am 5'5, 147ibs, a size 8 pants and a S or M in tops and usually a M in jackets. This one almost fit, but not if I wanted to be able to layer under it. I own a L in the Das and the same reason-because of the hips. I swear Patagonia forgets that women's hips are wider than men's. One thing I did like is there was ample room in the shoulders. I have wide shoulders and that is usually the issue I have with jackets (like TNF thermoball) in being a bit snug behind the shoulders and limiting movement. So it scores points for there. The colors are nice. I went with the cobalt blue and it's exactly like the color on the computer screen. I chose dark based on reviews about seeing feathers through the fabric. So if that concerns you-rest assured that the blue does not show feather spots. I took away stars for fit and for the feather I found.

great jacket for winter

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This jacket is very comfortable, light and yet warm. It is useful for a wide temperature range. I love the color. I usually wear medium but had to exchange for large. The medium was tight in the hips, like a girdle!

Fantastic!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 10"
    Weight: 123 lbs
    Size Purchased: small

I have wanted a warm, hip length down jacket for years, but have had difficulty finding the "perfect" one... until now! In the past I struggled with the arm length and body length of the jacket, as well as overall boxiness (for reference, I am tall at 5'10, and slim 123 lbs). I had tried on earlier versions of this model in previous years and other brands, but never found anything that I liked. Finally though, the design of this down sweater works! It has nice long arms, a slim-ish cut and hits me perfectly at the hip. I went with the small for adequate room in the chest and ability to layer underneath. It is so cozy, warm, and comfortable that I end up wearing it everywhere. The only possible downside, is that it is not 100% windproof so if you wanted true warmth on a cold and windy day, you would probably have to add a shell over it for added protection. I love it so much, I even have my eye on the hooded version for the future!

No wonder everyone loves it!

This is my first down sweater and I'm loving it! I am short (5'1"), medium built (125 lb, 34B) with rather wide shoulders and short torso. I first ordered a medium (most of my tech wear tops are medium) but it was too big so I exchanged it for a small and the fit is much better. It's roomy enough to wear a fleece or sweater underneath and long enough to cover most of my rear end. Although I wouldn't wear this jacket as the only outer layer in Polar Vortex weather (unless you have a teenager's metabolism!), I've tested this jacket slightly below freezing temps and with a fleece underneath I was not cold at all (I get cold easily!). The wind protection is great too. I can see why everyone loves this jacket. This might become the most useful 3 season jacket for me!

Not for slim folks.

  • Height: 5' 7"
    Weight: 125 lbs
    Size Purchased: Med

I wanted to like this jacket but it was too big, especially in the bust. I just looked dumpy in it. I'm slim, 5'7", about 125 lbs, and it just hung on me. I loved the color and it appeared to be well made, it just didn't fit me.

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 5"

    Size Purchased: Medium

I ordered this jacket to supplement the older down Patagonia sweater that I have which I wear constantly. This down sweater fits much longer than my older one. This is good and bad - the shorter fit was fine on me and worked well with my older Patagonia shell jacket which fits sort of short. This is the only reason for my four stars (and not five stars). But, the new fit will be warmer and not result in any gap of warmth when I raise my arms. In addition, the sizing is smaller than my original down sweater. The older down sweater I took a small; this down sweater I took a medium and the fit is perfect. I am 5'5" and 125 lbs. I have enough room to wear a light fleece under the down sweater and I have plenty of room at the shoulders (athletic build) and it's not tight at the bust (I am a 36B). Sleeve length is good too (I have sort of long arms). I would recommend this downn sweater to anyone who wants lightweight warmth in any season. I hope for many years of use out of this down sweater.

Perfect Patagonia AGAIN!!!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

  • Height: 5' 5"

    Size Purchased: Large

Sleeves work for me with the elastic around bottom. I ordered size Large because I like jackets roomy and this one is super. Have worn it with a fleece long-sleeved turtleneck underneath and do NOT feel like I have on too many layers and trapped. LOVE the color and for Alabama weather this is super. SALE PRICE is one reason I bought it, too, although I have worn Patagonia products since they were first manufactured. Same great quality over the years.

runs a little big but worth it

I am 5'2'' and weigh 125. I ordered the small. It fits snug (not tight) around the midsection and a little loose everywhere else. Not a designed with the petite in mind ;). But just roll your sleeves a little, and enjoy the warmth and weightlessness of this great jacket.

Own It and It Works!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

While this jacket is lightweight and holds the wind at bay, it's a versatile piece, and can be used as a go-to, shuttling around outerwear or, as a midlayer in colder, winter conditions. The outer fabric is slightly heavier-duty (22D) than ultra-light versions of down jackets. If I were hitting the woods for some backcountry skiing, or other higher output winter outdoor activities, I would likely take along the lighter, more compressible versions, and ones with more articulation for movement built into the shoulder design. But for a variety of uses for those who seek to still keep it on the light side, this is a great option. I found the sleeves to be ample in length and the slight dip in the back hemline makes for nice coverage without going overboard. (Gave it 4 stars but deserves higher, just could use a little more shoulder room for my broader athletic-fit shoulders.)
