Outdoor Research designed the Women’s Aria Down Jacket to keep heat in whether you are using it as a warmth-trapping outer-layer on cold, clear days or utilizing the cold-blocking power of 650-fill down under a shell when things get wet. The standard fit is comfortable without being overly bulky so you can enjoy all of the toastiness of down without looking like a marshmallow.

  • The entire parka can be stored in one of the zippered hand-warmer pockets that doubles as a stuff sack
  • Dual drawcord hem and elastic cuffs seal out wind and snow
  • Ultralight 20D ripstop shell is made from recycled materials to save resources and ease stress on the environment
  • Minimal bulk and the lack of a hood make it easy to layer a shell over the Aria when it starts dumping on the mountain

Happy lime green

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Love this coat. I usually wear a size 2-4 and the XS was the right size in this coat (tried the small and had to return). Light weight and needed another layer underneath for really cold days but otherwise the perfect winter coat for Denver winters.

So far so good...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I just got this jacket , have been wearing it around the house, and so far, I like it. I will be testing it more this weekend, with temperatures in the teens to 30s. I bought a medium in the Atlantis/Aquarium color. A bit greener than I thought, but not bad. I'm 5'3", 120lb, 36D in in the chest, and have a short torso. The medium is a little baggy on me; a small would have fit better. But I plan to layer underneath, so this is not a problem for me. The sleeves are on the slightly longer side, but I don't have exceptionally long arms. The length of the jacket is a little long on me, but I have a short torso, and since you can tighten the bottom, this doesn't bother me much at this point. It's nice and light, and has a stuff sack included. Supposedly you can stuff it into one of the pockets - but I tried it and it seemed like it would rip the seams - so, I don't recommend it.

I'll have a better idea of how it holds up in cold weather after this weekend. I'll update my review after that!

Always "down" to wear this jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

After I put it on, I don't take it off. Its so warm without any bulk. I used to own the one with a hood, which I liked more. But when I layer it up, the hood only gets in the way. I have a size medium and its a perfect fit. Im 5'4 and weigh 125. This jacket totally compacts so I take it everywhere. I use it skiing, sleep in it when I'm camping and wear it around town.

Awesome lightweight coat

I have two of the aria coats ; the coat length and the parka. Both are great because they are lightweight and easy to care for. I recently took the coat traveling across the country, and it performed beautifully. Remember the coat is warmer than it feels, especially if you add a scarf. It does run true to size, I wear a medium in Outdoor research, and did with this as well. Love it!

Check out the following: Sierra Designs Gnar Hoody, Patagonia Down Sweater Hoody, Outdoor Research Aria Hooded down jacket, and The North Face Catalyst down jacket. Stoic has a nick anorak, in the Hadron Anorak Hoody. I have the Gnar Hoody and it's lightweight, packs small, has a nice elastic hood with good warmth to weight ratio.
