Great lens, but be very gentle with it

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

Excellent lens, very easy to change lenses out for changing conditions. Persimmon is perfect for your basic snow day with low light, but not completely overcast. As a reviewer mentions below, though, be very careful wiping away fog, water, debris....for some reason, the coating is very fragile and even if you're using a soft cloth (I was using a chamois from a different pair of goggles) you can very easily ruin the lens and get a big smudge across it. Only use the provided drawstring bag, and even then just dab it, don't wipe it.

The coating really isn't that fragile as long as you don't wipe it when it's wet. The inside, if wet, will just smear, but it tells you that on the bag. The outside, I have found, is really robust, and after multiple falls on snow, wiping it with a glove and jacket, it still doesn't have scratches.

Mine doesn't say anything at all on the bag. And it seems awfully tough to me to wipe off fogged/snowy goggles that are "dry". The coating should be substantial enough to withstand wiping water off of them with the provided bag. These are supposed to be snow goggles, not a delicate piece of technical equipment.

Don't touch the inside of the lens!

    • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer

I got a spec of something on the inside of my lens, and tried to wipe it off. A small smudge turned into a bigger smudge until the whole thing was just completely opaque. Great goggle otherwise, so 4 stars

    Hi-Intensity Yellow

Good lens for all but sunny days. The yellow shows good definition in the snow in less than fair conditions. My local area is Valdez and as some people know the weather is often variable and thus I needed a solid flat/low light lens. I have been very satisfied with the lens so far with the conditions I have been riding in.
      VR50 Pink Iridium
The lens is good for sunny days. If you are looking for a flat or low light get YELLOW. I have been able to use the Pink lens a few times and have been happy with it. Once the conditions get worse tho its time for the YELLOW to come out.

Great lens when it's not sunny

I have used this, Persimmon, lens for many years in my old a frame and I love it. It gives you great visibility even in flat light. If you buy goggles with mirror lens this is an absolute need as a complement.

Great Lens for a Great Goggle

This is a great lens. The XYZ optics make it the most optically correct lens of any lens made. Why put an astigmatic lens in front of your eye when people pay thousands of dollars to correct their astigmatisms. This lens is optically correct so you don't have to worry about that! It is also as impact resistant as a pair of safety goggles, so that tree branches don't shatter your lenses and kill your eyes. Get these lenses for you awesome splice goggles!

          Splice Lenses

I love these lenses. I got the VR28 and HI Persimmon lenses, and together, they cover most conditions. I use the Persimmons when it is cloudy or snowing and the VR28 all other times. It's not fail-safe, though -- if it's really snowing, I want something like a clear lens, and I haven't been out on a supper sunny day, but I would say that the VR28s might not be dark enough. For 90% of conditions, this is a perfect combination. Oakley really did a good job on the anti-fogging with these too. The only complaint that I have is about the fit on the nose: it is a little snug, but it is still comfortable.

I would also like to know the VLT on the Rose lens listed. Cannot find it after extensive research. Is the name correct? Thanks!

            Hey Gjk,

The VLT on the rose lens comes in at 57%. It makes the lens an ideal all around lens similar to a persimmon lens. The lens should work well in low light and still will block some rays on the sunny days too. This lens is great for most days except for the super low light or extremely sunny days where it either will be slightly dark or too light.

With the Rose lenses they have listed, what is the VLT on it, it doesn't show that color on chart, or at least I don't see it?

Any chance of you shipping to Sweden?

            Charles,

This is a sad story indeed, but Oakley is one of those brands we are not allowed to ship outside of the United States because of trade restrictions. Trust me, we wish it were otherwise.

Many international customers deal with these restrictions by shipping to locations within the US and then arranging for further shipping themselves. If you have specific questions about how to ship certain brands to Sweden or another international location, please contact our Gearhead crew by phone or chat.

I'm an east coast rider and will be traveling out west to Park City soon. I currently have the fire iridium lens (not polarized). Which, if any, might be a better option for those blue birds out west?

how you know if the lens is mirror ?? ( dont see the eyes )

            Best Answer

Oakley calls their "mirror" lenses "iridium" lenses - although some colors are more reflective than others. I'd recommend Emerald Iridium, Fire Iridium, or Grey Iridium if you don't want people seeing your eyes. Blue Iridium, Pink Iridium, and Black Iridium are not as reflective as the Emerald, Fire, or Grey.
