Why We Like The Mountain Hardwear Stretch Ozonic Insulated Jacket
The mountains are predictably unpredictable, so we always stuff the Mountain Hardwear Stretch Ozonic Insulated Jacket in our multi-day pack even if the forecast says sun. The breathable membrane and fully sealed seams stop the inevitable rain and snow from soaking through, while the body-mapped insulation holds in warmth without making us overheat. When the terrain gets more technical, we open the underarm zippers to boost airflow. And when the winds pick up, we cinch the hood and hem tight to stop the cold and the wet from blowing inside.

Dry & warm
Works great! I'm in the Pacific Northwest where weather can change in an instant, always expecting rain. I feel very prepared & warm with my stretch ozonic insulated jacket.

Exactly what I was looking for in a waterproof insulated coat.
I bought this last week to replace a Columbia outdry jacket that couldn't be repaired. I wanted something waterproof and insulated. I have a stretch ozonic summer jacket that I like. I gave it a try tonight on the dog walk with a t-shirt and amedium fleece under it. Temperature was minus 8 C (16F) with the wind chill, and light snow. I was walking at a good pace and stayed comfortable. I wouldn't wanted to be stationary for long at these Temps. Overall, just what I was looking for.

I was looking for a non-bulky, waterproof, mid-weight winter coat. Bought this based on some very positive reviews, as well as my experience with Mountain Hardwear in the past. The positives - It looks fantastic. The color really pops, and the fit is like it was tailored for me. I've got reasonably wide shoulders and longish arms, and this thing is cut perfectly for that. I can wear it with a light shirt underneath, or layer a sweater...Either way, it fits comfortably. The exterior shell is supple. Doesn't feel like heavy Gore Tex (because it isn't). The inside and exterior pockets are perfectly sized. Easy to stash gloves and a hat in them. Nice touch having key tethers in the side pockets. On a 30-degree hike while it was actively snowing, I had to unzip the pit vents and the front of the jacket....It's deceptively warm. I'd wager with the proper layer(s) underneath, this would be perfectly acceptable for casual wear down to about 30 with a stiff wind. The negatives - The main zipper is small. It really should be bigger than the pocket zips. It's also bulky enough that it won't pack down small. If you're doing a multi-day hike and space is limited, this may be a bit problematic. The twist - After having worn it a few days, my girlfriend saw it, liked it, but said, "it's got holes in the front". Sure enough, there were what looked like abrasion holes on the left side front. I called Backcountry, explained what we'd seen, and was immediately told they'd exchange it. Literally the next day, a replacement jacket showed up. The bottom line - I love this jacket, and I'm once again impressed with Backcountry. I strongly recommend this jacket.

Is Gewd
Waterproof, warm without being bulky, and extremely tough considering how light it is. I’ve found Mountain Hardware hoods to be inconsistent, and usually running to small. The hood on this jacket is a great fit. I’ve put this jacket through some serious testing and it’s yet to rip anywhere.. pretty tough, especially considering how light it is. Only complaint is that it’s not long enough - barely goes below my belt.

Almost a winter coat
Heavier than I expected—it’s almost a winter out of-season coat. It’s probably too much for summer. Sheds water well and moves well.

I like it
It's a great fit and a good quality jacket although I do not think it's rainproof as much as they say it is

Good jacket, not waterproof
I live in Seattle & was in the market for a decent rain jacket. A Mountain Hardwear rep assured me that this jacket was waterproof, but after a few commutes in the light rain (< 3 miles), the jacket wets through. It turns out the waterproof rating is 5000mm. It’s a great jacket if you’re going down the street in light rain, but not if you’re on a hike or if you find yourself in a decent downpour. I’m disappointed and feeling a bit misled.
