Can I wash this? I want the white color but--you know.

Best Answer Responded on

Hi Kathie,
Yes you can wash this- from Mountain Hardware website:

"To machine wash, first zip up all zippers, attach all Velcro, and turn your garment inside out. Only use a front-loading machine, with cold water on a gentle setting. Use a minimum amount of a mild powder soap or special down soap (available at outdoor stores). Use at least two rinse cycles to get all of the soap out of the garment.

When moving your garment from washer to dryer, do so by carrying it from the bottom. Tumble dry in a large, commercial dryer with low heat. The dryer must be large enough for the garment to flop around freely. Drying could take several hours, and your garment should be checked often to be sure it isn't overheated. As it dries, look for clumps of wet down and gently shake to redistribute the down.

When laundering, don't:

use a top-loading washing machine
use a liquid soap or detergent
use your home dryer (they have been known to melt holes in fabric)
lift your garment from one end when wet (lift the entire thing from underneath)
dry out in the sun (UV can damage nylon)"

Sorry that is so long, I couldn't paste the url link for some reason.

Awesome winter coat

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I love the fact that this coat fits me well. I'm 5'0 and 115 lbs - I got the size S. It kept me cozy last winter. Highly recommend this procuct.

She loves it

This is (was) my wife's favorite coat. It's long, had a nice hood and good zipper. I am speaking in past-tense here because the coat was too close to the heater and burned up. RIP jacket.

I am looking at buying this jacket in white. Because I have small kids, I am wondering if this jacket is machine washable. Thank you.

Responded on

It is machine washable. Eventually, though, washing will make it lose its water resistance. There are aftermarket products to help with that.

great coat

Keeps you warm in very cold temps yet feels light weight. Definitely would recommend. I am 5.5 about 125 and a medium fits me well.

I love that you say your height and weight- so helpful

In the good words of Mr. Andrew Jordan-

"I bought for my daugter. It is really good. This down coat was tested on hilled terrain in real winter environment. As my daughter said, she never had this light garment and so warm. Even if you are afraid of cold, you?ll hardly notice it. The size is right. And important is right length ? the coat doesn?t impede quick walk and you can rest on snowy hill just sitting on it. I?m glad that I?ve bought it."

Since they weren't able to put this review online, I was requested to do so!
Voila !

Did the fur trim change recently? I just received this coat and the trim is not fluffy and looks rather skimpy. The coat overall is very nice and I like the fit.

My daughter loves this coat. It is super warm for cold Ohio days. She bought the small. She is 5'6" and weighs around 125. She has had a bit of trouble with the zipper but i think it's because it's a double zipper (zips up from the bottom for room) and she might not always get the zipper seated in properly. Overall, she is very happy with this coat.

This is an awesome coat. I tried TNF and Patagonia, they don't fit right. This coat fits beautifully. I am 5'3" 155 pounds, 59 years young and the L fits awesome with enough room for a sweater underneath. Plus it comes in at the waist but still leaves some room. Also very light weight, but extremely warm.

FIT is true to SIZE.

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I am 5'6" 118 lbs and ordered a size small based on the reviews. I really wished I had ordered an XSmall in the end because size small was definitely a little baggy. I like my jackets snug (but not too snug). If you are small to medium chested like me (around 34B cup size), an XS would have been a better fit. Size small was too big. Now I have to return my original order for the XS, hoping it doesn't sell out...

Great Coat!

Been searching for a warm coat of this length. The fit was perfect. I used this for a winter camping weekend and was very warm the entire weekend. I also use this as my day to day winter jacket. The down is great, I rarely find myself too hot in the jacket, something that happens often in synthetic materials. I love it. Fashionable and functional.

Great coat!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

We purchased this coat for my wife a couple years ago and recently purchased one for her mom. It has been a great coat that warm enough for Chicago winters, but does not create a "heat box" effect to make it too hot.

Hey smallfish, may I suggest comparing your measurements against the sizing chart next to the "Select options" drop down menu? They are usually fairly accurate and can be a decent resource. Best of luck!

Is there a newer style for this coat this year? I saw this coat in a retail store in ME this past weekend for $285. I LOVED it & almost bought it, now considering buying it from you since it is on sale! Just want to make sure it is the same coat...hmmm. I tried on a sm and it seemed to fit perfect. I am 5'4, 132 lbs. But, from reading the reviews it seems like a M might be better, that's why I am thinking it is a different coat...help please :)

Responded on

SMinery. This is the current jacket and there are no newer versions. If you tried on a small and liked the fit... I would stick with the small. If you want to layer sweaters and the like under it perhaps the medium would be a better fit. However, with your stated dimensions I bet a small would work perfect for you. Thanks and Enjoy!

I see that the hood is removable, but is the fur trim removable too? I'd like to keep the hood on but remove the fur. Thanks!

Responded on

Yes, the faux-fur trim is removeable as well!

Great coat, not too stay-puf-marshmallow

Bought this and TNF Upper West Side to try out after concludng that Patagonia Fiona wasn't warm enough. First thought was that it was too heavy for DC, but I wanted something for our coldest days when walking the dogs is an unpleasant chore, and the 15 minute walk between downtown offices I do a few times a week make me whimper. The pluses were the detachable hood, shaped silloutte (which is important n a puffier coat), above the knee length, yummy plush lining, and quality. Disn't love the look of the Other coat as much. Two days after the decision the temerature dipped and the winds picked up, resulting in wind chills of <20. I have happily walked the pooches, and even went an extra mile because I was so comfy. I am 5-6, 160, and bought a L, which gives me plenty of room for layers - or even a suit jacket. Happy customer!

What is your warmest down jacket for a woman?

Responded on

This is a warm coat. If you are looking for the ultimate coat I would suggest Canada Goose but they ae very expensive.

Ira. If you are looking for a warm, slightly more technical, down jacket I would look no further than the Hunker Down Parka from Mountain Hardwear. It is a great value and will keep you super warm! I hope this info helps!

Great coat!!

I originally ordered this coat in L black but had to send it back because it was too big. I'm 5'8", weigh 150 lbs and have a sporty build. I couldn't get the coat in a M black so I ordered purple. I'm so glad black wasn't available in my size because the purple is really nice, the photo doesn't do it justice!
I live in Switzerland and at the moment it's -16°, so glad I have this great coat to keep me warm! The size is perfect as there is enough room for a warm sweater to fit comfortably underneath without making the coat fit snug. It is also amazingly light. I have received a lot of compliments on this coat and I love wearing it!

LOVE it!!!

I live in Boston, and spend tons of time at freezing cold hockey rinks watching my two boys play. You simply can't beat down for warmth, and this coat not only is warm but is also flattering! The photo really doesn't do it justice. The hood gives full coverage without flopping in your face, and the drawstring allows you to keep it snug around your face. The furry lining is a dream, and NOT having it inside the sleeves means the sleeves glide and on and off over your clothing without sacrificing warmth or wind protection. This coat is WARM and TOASTY! And, I got it in the purple color which is gorgeous -- not overly bright or garish, really a perfect wine color. I couldn't be happier with this coat -- YAY!!!

Best Coat EVER!

I love this coat! I have had it three months and have never liked a coat more than this one. The fleece lining is cozy. The down is light weight and warm. For the first time I am not cold....and so happy. No problem with loose feathers. Great pockets and I like the inside sleeve cuffs. I am 6' tall, 160 pounds, and the XL fits great. Sleeves are long enough and it hits about 6 inches above the knee - long enough to provide a layer of warmth when I sit down. The coat fits well alone and I can also wear with thick sweaters.

I stressed over which coat was best -- I bought three and kept this one. A great choice as I can wear it with suits to work or with jeans to a football game.
