This is a proxy post (I've never worn this, but I received this feedback:
"I spent hours reviewing women's coats, hoping to buy one that was
down-filled, yet not so puffy as to make me look like the Michelin man. I
also wanted a hood and lining at the cuffs of the sleeves as well as for
the length of the jacket to fall below my butt but above my knees. This
coat had all of those features. I ordered the Marmot Montreal in medium (I
am 5'6", 130 lbs) and it fits perfectly. It hits mid-thigh, is not too
tight in the shoulders of too short in the sleeves. I have paired a zip up
with a leather jacket, and the coat still fits well over the many layers. I
am amazed at how lightweight the coat is (and compactable, too), yet it
does the job keeping me warm in 20 degree temperatures and below. This coat
is well worth the money and I hope to have it for the next 10 years! (I
would caution short/petite women to take into account the length of the
coat when buying: if you are hoping for it to hit you mid-thigh, it will be
longer and could potentially look/feel overwhelming on a smaller frame"

I LOVE this coat. It is beautiful in both design and color (I got the Ink Blue), exceptionally warm, and perfectly fitted (I'm 5'6" and a Size M falls just a few inches above my knees--enough to keep my bum warm without feeling like I'm in a sleeping bag). And,there's no need to worry about looking like the Michelin Man; the coat looks great on! Its water-resistant shell effectively blocks the cold Northeast wind; its lined pockets are super soft and warm; and its hood is roomy enough to fit ear muffs and a hat underneath. The interior pockets are a great feature, too. This coat has kept me toasty warm in Boston, MA and in Montreal, QC! Yes, every now and again, a feather or two might poke out of the shell (it is a down coat, after all), but it's really no big deal. It's a GREAT investment! So happy I bought it.

I've had it for a few weeks now and no issues with loose feathers or anything else. Surprisingly lightweight yet it keeps me warm.

Great addition for the winter. Like the other posts, I sized up to a small, but am usually an XS (Prana, NF). The small is a perfect fit. I am 5'1" and the length is good and the construction is fitted at the waist, so I don't look too "puffy".

I got the xs and found it a little snug in the chest, to echo what other reviewers have said. I didn't size up because I like how it fits everywhere else. But it's a good length and warm. I actually bought a North Face jacket and returned it because it was too boxy in the shoulders/chest area. This jacket is not like that, but I would say it fits smaller than a North Face XS.

Got the coat in "moonstruck" which is a super light grey/off white color that is awesome in person. It looks straight white in the photo, but it actually has a little grey hue that I love. It's super warm - the fleece lining and sleeves help a ton. All hood elements are removable, but they lay flat and don't get in your way when you aren't using the hood, so it's good either way. Runs very true to size so if you are up in the air, opt for the larger size. In the North Face similar style, I would probably get the XS, but I ordered this in S and it fits perfectly. The length is good too - I'm only 5'1" and it hits at the mid-thigh so it doesn't look like I'm wearing a dress. Highly recommend this coat!

I've been wearing it for a week, and the feathers/down keep coming out, especially from the inside, so my sweaters are each time covered with these fluffs. Is it normal/typical for this coat?

Pros: Very warm throughout body, sleeves, and hood; long sleeves with inner cuffs keep cold out; fleece inner lining keeps back warm; high collar covers chin, and faux fur around hood holds warmth around face; dark olive color OK; reasonably flattering design. I disagree with the reviewer who criticized the faux fur, doesn't seem any different from what I've seen on other coats.

Cons: Sizing! I always wear a size small (5'6", 115 lbs), but this coat in the small fit too tight at armholes and chest. The small was otherwise just about right for me, although snug; sleeve length was very good for my long arms. Had to buy the medium to get enough room in the armholes. But the medium-size sleeves and coat length are a bit much for me, giving a bit of a baggy look, almost as if wearing a man's coat.

This is my second Marmot down coat, and they've been godsends in Montreal and Boston winters. Marmot just needs to get women's sizing right! Otherwise -- a great coat.

couldn't agree with you more! i usually wear a Med but in this coat, it's a tad tight across the chest and when i tried the large, it was too long and roomy. Fix the sizing and this coat is a winner!

how does this jacket compare to the northface brooklynn jacket????

This jacket has more down fill than the Brooklyn (550 fill), and a DWR coating on the shell as opposed to the nylon 70D shell on the Brooklyn which is rated at 25 PSI of shell waterproofing. They would both come in at a similar length (33 inch backlength for the medium). To break that down, this would have more fill, but the shell for the north face Brooklyn would be more water resistant. The hood on this jacket is also removable, whereas the hood on the north face jacket is fixed, but the faux fur that lines the hood is removable on each.

I got this jacket for commuting this winter waiting for the train. The length is perfect so you don't feel too bulky but long enough to be really warm, which is what sold me. I don't think the fake fur is that bad, since I don't think fur really looks that spectacular anyways. It actually looks more like real fur than other jackets I have seen. The fleece in the wrist and pocket area is awesome. It's warm, and a reasonable price compared to TNF or Patagonia brands. I am 5'7'' 135 lbs and Medium fits well.

Typically I love Marmot --- but not this coat. Well, really the fake fur. The coat run very large so if you're say 5'11 and thin, order a medium....and promptly remove and destroy the wannabe fur. It is horrid despite what the gear heads say. I asked 3x and each one said great. Not even close. It's a deal breaker. Fur on the hood can be adorable and lightens up this big mass of color but not when it looks like something scraped off a highway in australia 32 years ago. So without the fur is the coat great? No.. In the pictures i looks like it's slimming. It's not. It makes you look like a big bubble. Save your money and buy a better design.

ya the fake fur is bad on this one, but everything else is awesome, super warm, really deep hood with cinch cord for wicked winds, and falls to the knee, and very puffy, so lots of down, which DOES EQUAL warmth. I think if you want the other stuff overlook it, or get a coyote fur band and sew it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

It's faux fur, but I don't know how PETA feels about it. :)

Why would PETA care about fake fur???

What a BEAUTIFUL COLOR (violet), and when you put it on, instantly, it's so soft and warm; feels like you're wearing your favorite comforter, and you don't want to get out of it. EXCELLENT QUALITY MATERIALS. And surprisingly, the way it's constructed, it's flgure flattering! Heads and shoulders above most coats out there. Not only functional, but beautiful too; hard to find this combo. Runs a little narrower than other brands of same size.
