Stay completely warm while you walk across town in frigid temperatures, and don't worry if a few snow flurries start to fall.

Those frigid walks into town and annoyingly cold drives to work aren't a problem for you anymore thanks to the Marmot Women's Montreal Down Coat. The 700-fill down insulation works its heat magic while making sure the jacket feels light as a feather on your torso, and Marmot's proprietary Down Defender treatment resists water so the down won't lose it's warmth due to just a few snow flurries. The polyester shell has a DWR coating that also resists water. A plush lining slides over your work attire like a glove, and it feels so soft against your skin that you'll wish you could work in this coat all day.

The Montreal's insulated hood keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie, and you can remove both the hood and its fur ruff when you don't need them. Marmot lined the internal cuffs with micro fleece, and the front pockets also have micro fleece for extra hand coziness. The internal zippered pocket stores small items like lip balm while the drop pocket holds all your bigger items like your gloves, beanie, or phone.

  • Polyester shell with DWR coating
  • Plush fleece-lined torso
  • 700-fill down insulation with Down Defender
  • Thigh length
  • Zip-off, down-filled hood with removable fur ruff
  • Microfleece internal cuffs
  • Microfleece-lined front pockets
  • Interior drop, interior zippered pockets

Coming Back For More

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Height: 5' 5"
    Weight: 168 lbs
    Size Purchased: large

I purchased this coat last year to replace a 600 fill North Face coat that I have had for about 6 years. It did not disappoint! It keeps me warm. I guess there is look of contentment on my face as other women have commented they want my coat! The only color available in my size at that time was the white so I plan to order the Montreaux in a darker color for obvious reasons and because it is a little longer for this winter.

Really warm and comfy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Height: 5' 6"
    Weight: 155 lbs
    Size Purchased: Medium

I compared this to another coat, and ended up keeping this one. First off, it's really warm, partly because the top half has a fleece lining. Yes, the coat is water/snow proof. I haven't tried it in rain, but we get some pretty wet snow in NYC, and there were no lingering dark wet spots. The only drawback is that it's not really stylish. The diagonal quilting helps to slim the coat, and the faux fur on the hood is sleek, but it's still a puffer. In the end, the coat is comfy, warm, and well-made.

Great Coat!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

This coat is very comfortable and warm. The coat is long enough to keep your legs warm especially in very cold weather. I highly recommend this coat if you are looking for a warm weather coat. It is well worth the money!

Purty darn Warm

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size

Gave this as a gift to my mother for Christmas. The woman is extremely cold blooded, like orders hot tea on a 90 degree day because the AC is on and she needs something warm, cold blooded. She put this on during the last cold blast back east and absolutely loves it. Much warmer than previous TNF jackets she's purchased. Comes down around mid thigh, as far as length goes. She got the Cabernet and says "it's very purple". so there's that.

Great coat

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased this coat a few months ago and love it. Just long enough in length and have been in below zero weather several times. The soft fleece inside is a plus. I ordered a large due to bust and hips and still have room for a sweater. This cost is worth the money.

Great jacket for subzero temps!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I had been looking for a long jacket for quite some time. I tried on the Canada Goose Trillium, and loved it- but really didn't want to throw down a month's rent on a jacket. I settled on the Marmot Montreal for its down fill and positive reviews, and I already have a Marmot ski jacket, which has been great.

The jacket fits really well. I thought it might be unflattering, but its actually flattering on. I had read reviews that it was tight in the chest area; but I did not find that to be true. I purchased the XS. For reference, I am 5'1" and 105 lbs, 32B chest. I was able to wear a thin crew neck sweatshirt underneath. It felt snug, but I did not feel as though my movement was restricted in any way. Another reviewer commented on the short sleeves, but again, I did not find this to be the case. With my arms extended, the end up the jacket sleeve hits me just above the knuckles.

I put the jacket to the test this morning- I took my dog for a walk in -24F Minneapolis. I felt very warm for the first time of my life living in Minnesota. I wish that it came in a body suit...

Bottom line- great jacket for cold weather temps, with a flattering fit and Marmot quality. (and good price!)

Short Sleeves

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

Wanted to love this coat- felt so warm and length was nice, but there are tight fleece cuffs inside this coat that were way uncomfortable. They hugged my wrists too short for my sleeve length, so much that I couldn't wear a sweater with the coat. The coat is warm enough that you probably don't need a sweater, but inside my house I did, but then couldn't put on the coat comfortably. Too bad. Warmest coat I have found.

Magical Cloud of Warmth!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

After hesitating to drop the $$, I bought this coat as a christmas present to myself...and honestly, couldn't love it more. I live in very-northern-practically-Canada Vermont, and wanted something to keep me warm walking my dog or strolling town on well-below zero days. So far I've had it out in ~ 5 F (with only a t-shirt under) and was VERY warm. I tried on several brands similar coats (Mountain Hardware, North Face, etc) and the Marmot was by far the nicest fit and coziest (really fluffy but somehow still flattering, must be the diagonal baffles). Comfortable, soft, warm...amazing!

Size wise, I usually wear a small but went with a medium..I'm 5'5", 130 lb, have a pretty muscular upper body arms/back, the small fit great everywhere else but felt tight in arms/chest (I was able to try on in store). If you're similar build would suggest sizing up. Medium fits great.

I got the coat in black, and feel it's nice enough to dress up (but works just as well in jeans/sweats). I think the faux fur is cute - but both the fur and hood zip off separate, so you can adjust to suit your taste

also! (and maybe most importantly), it hits around mid-thigh, 1/2 way between hip and knees...offering full coverage to keep your buns toasty :)

Sizing Way Off

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

This runs really small in the chest & shoulders. I am petite - 5'1", not broad or big-chested, and the small only fit with a thin sweater underneath. Who wears thin sweaters in the winter? The medium was way too big. Disappointed in Marmot's sizing. A friend who bought the same coat had the same issue with the Medium (she is taller but also petite frame). Gorgeous coat, very poor fit. Too bad!

runs small in chest!!!!!

  • Fit: Runs small

I am 5'2" and 112lbs but have a broad back/but no chest really from paddling. I ordered a small and it is way too tight in the chest but fits perfectly everywhere else. Nice jacket but runs really small for a down coat. Now there are no mediums left-too bad.

So warm!

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I just got my coat delivered a couple days ago and I love it! It's so warm. It isn't super cold yet (about 23 today, which seems cold but if you're from Michigan you know that's only the beginning), but I couldn't feel the chill at all through this coat. I've only had the coat a couple days but I haven't seen any problems with the down coming out yet so that's good. As for the size, I'm very petite (5'0 and 115 lbs) and I could have gotten an XS. I got a small and while it fits well, I definitely have more room than I need under there. I would return it for an XS but I'd have to mail it in and go through all that and it's not worth it to me so I'm keeping the small. It just means I have lots of room to layer if I want to! Some reviews said it was tight in the chest area for them but I don't have that issue. I'm a 32C and still have a couple inches of fabric there. The length of the coat hits about four inches above my knee so it keeps my legs warm without taking over my whole body. The hood is very roomy too. It falls right over my face when I put it up but I don't mind. Any time I'd want to wear a hood, I'm assuming I'd want a lot of coverage from wind. Overall I'm very glad I got this coat! It's not only warm but also very cute. I got the cabernet color and it's exactly as it shows on the webpage. It's a deep purplish red, like wine. Love it.

It IS warm!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

It's mid November and we've already had below-zero wind chills here in Chicago and this coat has kept me warm!!! I get cold easily and my body just doesn't produce heat unless I'm exercising. I have to stand at my kids bus stop 6 times a day (3 kids x twice daily) everyday and it's usually super windy there. I don't even have to wear a hat as long as I put on the hood (which is quite big and my side views are limited). Even when it's windy, I do not feel any wind creeping in. I feel like I've finally found my perfect everyday coat!

As for the fit, I bought a medium as usual. I'm short (only 5'1") and top heavy (125 lbs) and my jacket has enough room for a thick sweater. The cut is still quite feminine and I don't look huge like some thicker down coats do. The long length covers about 3/4 of my thigh so it's a perfect length for jeans. I couldn't decide whether to order Montreal or Montreaux but decided on the shorter one just because I wanted a everyday coat to wear with jeans. I like the Montreal so much that now I'm thinking of ordering the Montreaux or Toronto for dressier occasions!

Oh, one more thing. I have the black which isn't true dark black but has a grayish tint to it. I don't mind it but if you want a true black jacket, it's not.

Does this jacket have wrist protectors (inserts for your hands) at the end of the sleeves? It is hard to tell from the picture?

If you're talking about the kind that covers your palm and a hole for the thumb, no it doesn't. It just has a fleece cuff (not elasticized) that comes right up to the inside of the down exterior material.

On another site it says that the down leaks all over the back. Has this been a problem for anyone?

I had concern about this too. I called Marmot and they said there were some issues with some of the coats but not all of them. They apparently guarantee and so does Backcountry. I would check with customer service by phone to see how they would handle this. Not sure how Marmot would handle guarantee.

Favorite winter coat!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I love this coat!!! It's my favorite coat for around town. I stay completely warm and dry, even in a storm. I love that it keeps me toasty all the way to my knees, a life saver on cold walks. Can't wait to wear this again!

If I normally wear a medium, would a large...

If I normally wear a medium, would a large look too bulky on me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs. I really want this jacket but can't find it anywhere in medium.

I would not suggest getting a large. Based on your size it will be too big, and definitely look bulky.

great thing

everything is great.
it is true to size, but a little bit tight in chest.
