Stay completely warm while you walk across town in frigid temperatures, and don't worry if a few snow flurries start to fall.

Those frigid walks into town and annoyingly cold drives to work aren't a problem for you anymore thanks to the Marmot Women's Montreal Down Coat. The 700-fill down insulation works its heat magic while making sure the jacket feels light as a feather on your torso, and Marmot's proprietary Down Defender treatment resists water so the down won't lose it's warmth due to just a few snow flurries. The polyester shell has a DWR coating that also resists water. A plush lining slides over your work attire like a glove, and it feels so soft against your skin that you'll wish you could work in this coat all day.

The Montreal's insulated hood keeps your head nice and toasty so you don't have to squish your hair down with a beanie, and you can remove both the hood and its faux fur ruff when you don't need them. Marmot lined the internal cuffs with micro fleece, and the front pockets also have micro fleece for extra hand coziness. The internal zippered pocket stores small items like lip balm while the drop pocket holds all your bigger items like your gloves, beanie, or phone.

    Winter Essential

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small

This coat is amazing! It is super warm, cute, and cozy. I have no idea how I survived winter before owning a coat like this! I wear it everywhere, from class to work, to walking the dog. The 700 fill down is really warm without being too bulky. You can also remove the hood and the fur part of the hood to match different styles! My favorite part is the deep, fleece-lined pockets. I found that it runs true to size, however the shoulders are a bit tight. An XS would have been perfect, but I sized up to a S so that I could wear thicker sweaters underneath. The only thing that would make this coat even better is if the shoulders weren't so tight!

    Huge Fan of this Coat

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

I am such a fan of this coat that I own it in several colors as well as its longer sister version, the Montreaux. It keeps me warm in the frigid tundra that is Manhattan in January and February (along with all of the wind tunnels). I also love how the hood fully covers your head and the faux fur doesn't get in the way of your sight. I own both a small and medium. I can wear a light longsleeve/sweatshirt under the small and a thicker fleece under the medium. I agree that it's a little snug in the chest area (I'm a 36C), but not to the point that it restricts my movement.

    Too Large

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I followed the advice of the reviewers for this coat and ordered a size larger than I normally do. I am 5'2 and about 145 pounds. I usually buy a medium. The Large was way too big. The sleeves were too long and it was baggy around my waist and hips. The other thing I didn't like was that the zippers seemed rather cheaply made for such an expensive coat. My $30 down coat from Costco has better quality zippers. The coat is really cute - it was just too large for me.

    Love the parka

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS

This is a fantastic coat with so many great details, nice snuggly sleeves, fleece lining, two inside pockets, and a good length for shorties. I purchased the midnight navy, which is a beautiful color. I purchased an XS and can comfortably fit a mid-weight layer underneath it.

    Fit Issues

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: medium

This coat is very warm, and seems well made, but the fit was definitely off for me. For reference, I am 5'3", somewhere between 125-135 pounds, and 38-29-38. Based on reviews here, I bought the medium. The overall length was good (mid-thigh?), but the sleeves were oddly long. Tight-ish around the chest and hips, but large everywhere else. Just strange on me, and although I have had puffer coats in the past, this one took my shape away more than others I've had. I bought the Montreaux as well, and had pretty much the same fit issues.

    just in time...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: xs

I purchased this coat well before winter. However, with how cold fall has been, I've been wearing it almost constantly since it was delivered. I ordered an xs and couldn't be happier with my choice. The coat is VERY warm. It is also a great fit and clearly a very well made. I'm able to wear a t-shirt underneath and stay completely warm. I will be able to wear more bulky clothing if necessary, but who wants to do that? My favorite feature is the fleece cuffs and second fav is the fleece lined pockets. The versatility of the hood is unbeatable being able to remove the fur only or the entire hood. The price tag is expensive but you get what you pay for.

Not good for average height/tall girls

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

I loved this jacket for its warmth and amazing hood - one of the only jackets I've found that actually goes past my hairline and actually would cover my face from rain/snow/wind. Definitely a warm, high quality coat.

Why I returned it: I'm 5'7" and 125 lbs. 31" bust, 28" waist, 36" hips. The small was a bit roomy around the waist with thin to medium layers of clothes. The arms were about two inches too short, and the coat hit about mid-thigh. If you are taller than 5'4", I would not recommend this coat. I asked Backcountry, and they said the sleeves on the medium are longer, but the rep couldn't find out how much longer they are.

Like wearing a stylish down comforter!

After spending many hours searching for the perfect down coat, I went with the Marmot Montreal. All I can say is, WOW. This coat is everything I had hoped for. I have been wearing it consistently for several months now, and it is as lofty, warm, and pristine as when I first took it out of the box. I am a 5'1", 100 lbs. woman, and an XS fits perfectly. I have poor circulation and get cold very easily, but this coat keeps me so TOASTY and comfortable, not to mention, it’s beautiful and fashionable. It has the utility of a backcountry coat while also being chic enough to wear into the city. I love the fact that the zipper unzips from both the top and bottom so that I can free up my legs while I drive. The outside of this coat is water resistant, the down is water repellent, and the inside consists of this lovely, soft microfleece material. I also own the Patagonia Tres 3-in-1 parka (which I also adore for its waterproof exterior), and the Marmot Montreal seems like it has twice as much down as the Patagonia’s inner down coat. Despite the slim fit, I feel as if I’m engulfed by a comforting cloud when wearing this jacket. If you are looking for a warm winter jacket that is both stylish and has utility, look no further than the Marmot Montreal!

    Awesome coat! Runs small

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XXL

This is a great go to coat for casual or dressing up. Definitely runs small so go one size up. Comfortable and soft. Hard to find coats with a soft warm lining. Stop looking and just buy this one!

    Absolutely loved it...but runs small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium

I was looking for a long, warm, yet flattering winter coat. This coat checked all of those boxes. I have an athletic build, and ordered a medium, which I am almost always a medium in everything. It was about 1 1/2 inches too narrow for my shoulders, so unfortunately I had to return it without testing it out. If you're unable to try on this jacket without buying, get a larger size. Other than that- it is absolutely adorable and I don't look like a square blob in it!

    Warm jacket

    • Size Bought: Large

This jacket is very warm. Great for cold Michigan winters. It does run small. I am 54 and 138. I have small shoulders. I ordered a large and it just fits. I would not be able to wear bulky layers underneath The coat is very flattering.

    Great looking and warm coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

I bought this coat for my wife as a birthday present. She is 5'6" 115lbs with an athletic build. I purchased a size small in the silver onyx color. The coat fits very trim but comfortable when wearing a light thin sweater. When wearing a heavy oversized sweatshirt the coat is tight in the upper chest and arms but still wearable. When wearing either the thin sweater or heavy sweatshirt the jacket never looks bulky. The color is fantastic as are the features of the jacket. The jacket is noticeably more substantial and warmer than my wife's Patagonia down mid thigh parka. We were looking for warm winter jacket that could be worn with a just long sleeve shirt or thin sweater underneath and still keep you warm...and look trim and fashionable. So my wife likes the fitted look of the small but if you prefer wearing bulky sweaters you might want to size up. Since receiving the jacket, my wife has worn it walking around in 25 F windy weather with no issues. The jacket arrived just after the 2016 Washington DC snowpocalypse but I'm sure it would have weathered that storm no problem. Great job Marmot!

    Warmest Coat I've Ever Had

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small

I love this coat. It is incredibly warm and comfortable. Stood outside in 7degree weather for 4 hours and the only part of me that was cold were my feet. I love the onyx color and ability to zip off hood. Runs small in chest and arms. I'm 5'7 125 pounds and opted for the small because I like the fitted look but would probably be more comfortable in the medium. Just more room when reaching forward or above my head, etc. I love this jacket...super warm.

Short sleeves, with internal knit cuff.

Too bad, I've been wanting this jacket for years. I gave it to my daughter who is a little smaller than me. I'm not particularly tall, about 5'8" and 130 lbs. Very warm, great hood in the winter winds, but the arms weren't working for me, I couldn't layer anything underneath! Medium works perfectly for her, 5'5", 125lbs.

    Wife wanted this

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

My wife was ready to upgrade from her pea jackets and other puffies to something longer with class. This is what she chose,. I bet her that she would only wear this a few times and she has proven me wrong. She wears this jacket every where, every day. It is very warm, and looks great. The material is excellent and not a heavy down so she doesn't feel like this is a thick winter jacket. Even though it protects her like one. She likes the cuffs on the sleeves , and the options for pockets. When we've been out on colder nights she doesn't want to deal with a bag so she loads up her pockets with the essentials. She has been very pleased with this jacket and the length is perfect, coming down to about mid-thigh.

    Very Happy With This Coat

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    • Size Bought: Large

I'm 5'11" tall and sleeve length is often a concern for me. This coat is great! I wore it this morning through 11 degree weather on my commute to work, and it kept me warm. The sleeves are a perfect length, and the coat isn't bulky, considering it's a parka. After reading the reviews, I bought a Large, because I like to have some room for layering. A Large works well for me. I am very happy with this coat.

    Very Happy With This Coat

    Good purchase

I think it's true to size. I'm about 5'7" and 140lbs, medium is fit with enough room for a sweater. Falls mid thigh so it's long enough to keep you warm and not too long to get in the way. I chose navy blue, it looks a little darker than it shows on the website but still lovely :) I haven't tried it in extremely cold day yet, thought I would wear this on my trip to Russia in Feb... Real test... And I'll report back.

      Good purchase

Possibly the best coat I've ever owned

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small

This coat is so comfortable, warm, and extremely well made. It runs small as others have said - I usually wear a small but bought a med and it fits fine. It's attractive and light and stylish, yet very warm. The faux fur is nice and zips off. I got the black and it's a very pretty coat. The black is a soft black that almost looks dark brown in some lighting and then the soft lining is jet black.
I've had this coat for one week and I don't know how I have lived without it. Perfect for New England winter.

Kudos to Backcountry, delivered in two days as promised!

Does anyone think the black looks very chocolate brown?

My wife is busty and hippy- very hourglass shaped. She's generally a 14 or 16, but these brands are hard. Do you think the XXL would fit her?

FYI - I actually just tried this jacket on today. I'm usually a solid Medium. I do like my clothes a bit on the loose side. So I tried the large on and found it a little constricting in the chest area especially. I'm 5-5 and 135 lbs. I'd say this runs small. I decided not to buy it...

I'm 5'8" and 140-145 lbs. I have pretty broad shoulders (swimmer shoulders) and am debating between a medium and large. What would you suggest?

      Best Answer

I am the same height as you and about 5 lbs heavier. I tried both the M and L in a store. The M was very fitted, with only a t shirt on and the shoulders were tight when I put my arms forward. The sleeves were also too short. The L is what I went with and would suggest for you as well.

      Is it packable?

It doesn't pack down really small like many lightweight down coats do. This is a heavier weight coat, and while it will compress somewhat like any down coat will, it's not going to fit in your pocket or small bag.

      DOES IT PACK DOWN SMALL

Not really. It is meant to be worn as a causal coat for work or social outings in really cold temps.

Just my opinion from trying to stuff the jacket into a shopping bag I had nearby: The hood is not packable at all because of the fur and the body of the jacket is slightly compressible.

Does this jacket have wrist protectors (inserts for your hands) at the end of the sleeves? It is hard to tell from the picture?

On another site it says that the down leaks all over the back. Has this been a problem for anyone?

I had concern about this too. I called Marmot and they said there were some issues with some of the coats but not all of them. They apparently guarantee and so does Backcountry. I would check with customer service by phone to see how they would handle this. Not sure how Marmot would handle guarantee.

If I normally wear a medium, would a large...

If I normally wear a medium, would a large look too bulky on me? I'm 5'4", 120lbs. I really want this jacket but can't find it anywhere in medium.
