snug

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

i've been looking for multi-use winter jacket for downhill and cross country skiing, winter hiking, sledding with kids, etc. when i first got this i thought it was great. color is nice and bright, jacket is warm. problem is that it is extremely fitted. i'm a pretty small guy (5"6, 135lbs) and usually a size small fits but is on the larger side. with this jacket, in the small i would have very limited options for layering. pretty much can fit something like a patagonia r1 hoody and a midweight fleece vest. and even that would be a bit snug. so i decided to return this b/c i just felt it wouldn't be flexible enough for multiple uses / conditions.

i ended up getting the combo of arc venta sv soft shell plus arc atom. more money, but also a lot more flexibility for different conditions. found the venta sv to fit nicely for layering (a bit on the wide size if wearing it alone) and the atom to provide a great fit as a mid-layer. wearing just those 2 layers gets me pretty comfortable in 15-20 degree weather so long as i'm not just standing around. adding some bood base layers like a capeline and then r1 hoody lets me go to 0 pretty easily, without any restrictions on movement. the whole kit is pretty light, and the venta material feels like it can take a beating.

I'm a new Mammut Fan - Great Jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Just purchased this after a long search for a light weight and lightly insulated, but highly waterproof ski jacket. I wasn't looking at Mammut and wasn't familiar, but tried it on in the store and was really surprised. It is a light and soft jacket, easily compressible, but super warm. The pit zips are mesh-lined and work nicely to dump heat. Waterproofing is solid. In terms of sizing, it is slim fitting. I normally wear a large and am happy with the large, but it is an athletic fit that doesn't leave much room for layering underneath. However, the jacket is surprisingly warm, so I won't be using thick layers under it for skiing. Overall, I'm very pleased. I was looking primarily at North Face and Arcteryx, but also own some Outdoor Research shells and this one is my new favorite. This jacket is a great deal at the current prices.

Best Jacket I have ever owned.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

The title should summarize everything. I have used this jacket for about two weeks in a variety of fall/winter conditions. Main purpose for the jacket was to replace my ski jacket(s). I used to use a softshell/ shell combo with varied success. I have skied two days so far with this. Day 1 was 15 degrees moderate wind and snow guns. I wore this jacket and a thin baselayer underneath. I was warm lightly skiing and my core was warm with my arms cool (but not cold) riding the lift. This is perfect for me. Day 2 was 30 degrees, light wind, snow guns. Same layering. I opened the pit zips for most of the day and it felt great. I have also used this for walking the dog in a similar temp range and loved it. In addition I walked the dog in freezing rain and this jacket beaded well and kept me dry. The hood does fit over my ski helmet but barely. enough to cover up on the lift but not to ski down. Quality appears good. I love the pit zips and pocket configuration. Fit would allow a synthetic vest underneath but probably not a fleece jacket.

Rare quality

Warm, waterproof and light, this jacket is an performs. On frigid cold ski mountaineering days it keeps me warm, but never too warm thanks to the pit zips. And I bought a 4 litre stuff bag in which it tucks away easily for storage in my back pack. All in all a great jacket.

a lot of Swiss goodness here

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

my wife bought this one for me as an all around winter waterproof jacket. Super sharp in black. Keep finding features I love. Pit zips, hand warmer pockets inside zip pocket. But I must say most impressed with how light and warm it feels. used it on a recent trip to Alaska for work and wore it yesterday skiing at A-Basin in a snowstorm and 15 degrees. I'm a new Mammut convert I think.
