Description

The end-all ski jacket.

The Mammut Women's Flake Jacket wants to be your first last ski jacket. It's up to the task, too: a timeless style masks the unique functionality of multiple mountain-ready features. A two-layer Dry Tech membrane maintains the breathability of a more porous layer without sacrificing moisture-resisting properties.
  • Underarm zip vents give you control of your body temp during highly aerobic days on the slopes
  • Critical seam taping helps prevent soaking by lingering moisture
  • Removable powder skirt gives you the versatility to take this jacket into town for a casual evening
  • Lycra wrist gaiters seal out snow in a typically vulnerable, overlooked point

I was really surprised to see how low everyone rated this jacket. Many of the previous reviewers felt the length was a negative factor about the jacket, however I am really pleased with it. I am only 5'4'', and while it does have a longer fit, it is really nice to keep your hips and backside warm both on the chairlift and while in the backcountry. I tend to feel like jackets that hit right at your waist expose you to cold air and powder when you are skiing in deeper conditions. I also wore it with thermal leggings while running with the dogs on a bitter cold day and was thankful for the extra inches.

I bought this jacket to be a versatile piece for skiing on the resort and in the backcountry as it isn't quite a shell, and isn't overly insulated. I tend to run cold and was skeptical at first. I used it for a backcountry snowshoeing trip last week and thought it was perfect with a base layer. As the previous post indicated, the sleeves aren't lined like the core is, and as such for colder days with less hiking I would definitely want a mid-layer too. The inside has a lovely plush fleece that is very cozy and the built-in wrist gators (which go over your thumb) are a really nice feature for keeping the air and snow out of your gloves.

Although I am normally a standard size small, I went with a Medium in this jacket. Mammut tends to have a slimmer cut to their jackets and as it is a more of a shell I wanted to have the ability to layer.

I really like this jacket. As some of the other reviews stated, the jacket is pretty long, but I think this is nice for the cold weather. One thing that was weird to me was that bottom half of the sleeves were not lined. For my cold Minnesota winters, I put a fleece under it, though, and it's the best jacket ever. It cuts the wind, snow isn't a problem, and the hood keeps out every bit of cold.

The blue color is amazing! However, the cut is WAY too long on me. I am 5'8" and athletic build and it came down way past my hips and drowned me. Rather boring too, really lacking in the style department. Not sure how warm, lightweight feeling. Went with brand 686 and sent this one back. (Love the 686 BTW. ALL the bells and whistles and warm to the bone!)

The purchased this coat in the color flake which is absolutely gorgeous. However, like the previous reviewer, the coat is way too long. I am 5'8" and the coat length was mid thigh. Way too long! If it wasn't for the length I would have kept the coat as the quality is nice and color is awesome. A friend tried it on who is 5'11" and it was the perfect length.

Just bought this jacket and I love it... however... It says the fit is long, but I didn't realize how long. The color is beautiful, fuzzy fleece on the inside, lots of pockets and waterproof zips, very warm. It is also very comfy. The downfall, I am 5'5'' and this jacket comes down past my butt and hips to mid-thigh, I ordered a M and I look like I am wearing a men's jacket it comes down so far. Even though the body is feminine cut and fits well, the length for someone my height is just a bit much for a ski jacket. Love it, but I guess I am too short to pull it off... :(
