Why We Like The MX219 Wide Cycling Shoe

The MX219 Wide Cycling Shoe offers all of the race-ready features we love, but with a wider fit for more volume and a more comfortable feel while we ride. A carbon fiber sole enhances stiffness, and a rubber-lugged outsole enhances stability when we need to hop off our bikes and walk for a section. A side-mounted L6 Boa dial with a power strap lets us find our ideal fit and make micro-adjustments as needed, and Carbitex tongue panels reduce tongue panels for reduced friction lace adjustments.

Relief for my toes

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
44.0 wide

I have wide feet and the Lake MX 219 wide shoes resolved the foot pain I would get on longer rides (greater than 30 miles). I added cleats and had a proper cleat fitting session with a pro fitter. The pain has gone and I really love the shoes for that alone. The BOA tensioner is smooth easy to cinch up or release. Comfortable walking around on the shoes but don’t plan any long hikes in them. I’ve ridden about 300 miles in the shoes so far.

Terrific fit, so so exec

I’ve battled pressure and painful and numb toes for years. Measured my feet per Lake’s guidelines and viola! The width in the toe box solved my problem. In that regard I’m very happy with the shoes. The not so great, but livable. Single BOA makes even and consistent security a bit fiddly. The BOA cords also catch and hang on the edges of the material on the tongue. I’ve learned to fasten the BOA with my finger under the cords to help guide it and to tighten the lower part of the shoe. Remove my finger after I pull the looseness out of the forefoot and tighten the rest. A big deal? No. But my shoes still loosen after a bit of riding. The sole. As you can see in the photos the sole under the heel flares out. That extra width in combination of the seat stay width of a boost axle makes a tight clearance even more so. I get a lot of rubbing and I’ve never had an issue before. Fortunately I had frame protection already installed. The more curved shoe last may also contribute to a more inward heel? Am I unsatisfied? No. But I should have moved up to the dual BOA shoe. The quality of material and construction is there for a $240 shoe. But I would like a few things tweaked to call this shoe terrific.
