CX403 Speedplay Cycling Shoe
Lake’s top-tier road shoe gets an update in the new CX403. Featuring the same custom fit carbon fiber sole and supple kangaroo leather upper as its predecessor, the CX403’s BOA closure system is redesigned and the added rubber toe bumper helps extend the shoe’s longevity. These CX403 Shoes are offered in a Speedplay-specific sole, eliminating the need for adapter base plates and lowering the stack height for improved power transfer.
Lake’s Custom Fit carbon soles are heat-moldable, ensuring the perfect fit and incredible heel hold. Compared to the CX402, the CX403’s instep strap is twice as wide to better disperse pressure from the upper BOA dial. By employing two Boa dials, Lake enables you to keep your heel locked down, without requiring undue pressure on the forefoot. And as you already know, that means better blood flow, and greater comfort.

High quality and great fit
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Replaced a very well loved pair of D2 custom shoes with these Lakes. I was skeptical that the easy bake oven version of $2000 shoes would suffice. Very impressed that after 3 rounds of baking and molding that these Lakes are 95% as good as a full custom shoe at a fifth the cost. The speedplay ready soles were great and allowed me to position the cleats more mid-foot then a SPD version would have. Still some limitations on getting the cleat as far back as I would have preferred but acceptable for me given my D2s were more of a mid-foot cleat placement. Overall quality of leather and BOA system are excellent.
