The main compartment of the pack can be accessed either through the top or front zippered panel. An additional bottom compartment is ideal for a tent or sleeping bag. The height-adjustable top lid can be adjusted to make room for a full load, or cinched down tight if you're just going out for a day hike, but you need some extra gear. Inside the base compartment is an attached rain cover, which can be deployed when wetting rain blows through. Gear loops on the front of the pack accommodate either trekking poles or an ice axe when you're mountaineering.
