Ibis’ Mojo HD3 Carbon Boost Mountain Bike Frame has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 2014. Laziness? Hardly. The original HD3 was so far ahead of the curve that it’s still on the cutting edge a few years later, though it’s been updated with a new ultra-stiff Boost hub to take its hard-charging capabilities to the next level.
Part of the reason the HD3 has stayed so rock-steady is the DW-Link suspension platform. Though the physics are complicated (hence the impressiveness of Dave Weagle’s genius), DW-Link is somehow able to isolate rear-wheel movement from pedaling and braking forces, so you don’t bob up and down on climbs, dive while you brake, or feel out of control when you’re hammering down X-rated descents. This stability lets Ibis run the head tube at a slightly steeper angle than most enduro bikes, so greasing sketchy climbs is easier without affecting the bike’s chops at speed.
Short and burly chainstays play nicely with Boost to keep the Mojo super stiff and quick through the corners, and the low bottom bracket keeps the bike feeling like it’s glued to the ground. Internal cable routing keeps things tidy, and carbon-fiber construction is rugged enough to take the abuse that any enduro sled will suffer.
