Keep those pistons warm.
Giro designed its new 3/4 Thermal Bib Undershorts as a foundation layer for all of your cool-weather rides, as they seamlessly layer under outer riding clothing. This way, you remain supported, dry, and comfortable as you pedal from one place to the next this fall and winter.
The shorts were constructed using a soft Lycra and wool blend, which effectively wraps your legs and knees for a smooth fit. This material works to pull moisture away from your skin to keep you dry and comfortable underneath your additional outer layers. An Italian-made Cytech HP Carbon chamois was also added, as well as lightweight mesh bib straps, rounding out the support and comfort departments.
Knowing that many riders still like to wear base layers underneath casual riding clothes — absent of the traditional jersey's rear pockets — Giro incorporated three pockets into the upper rear panel of the bib shorts. This design lets you securely stash your valuables underneath your other layers and out of sight. Along these lines, a Quick-Access fly was also added at the front, which, of course, makes pit stops less of a chore.

Most features of these bibs are excellent: they fit great, have a nice insulated fabric, and great grippers below the knees. However, for the purposes of cold-weather riding they seem to suffer from what I'd consider a design defect -- the middle crotch panel is extremely thin and useless against the wind. These might be good to layer underneath other clothes, as the description suggests, but they won't really do on their own. Unfortunately the only thing keeping them from being top-notch bibs is that curious crotch panel.
