Pop quiz: what's more comfortable, a cushy or stiff saddle? Sorry, trick question. It really depends on the ride, but if you're planning on spinning hard, grinding up long climbs, and powering through sprints, a stiffer saddle will provide more comfort, not to mention more speed. Fi'zi:k tuned the Antares R3 Saddle with Braided Carbon Rails to provide the optimal blend of stiffness, flex, and lightness, making it the choice for hard-charging and flexible riders who dance around in the saddle like a little kid who has to pee.
It's almost entirely flat from front to back, which a slightly rounded side-to-side shape that will support you no matter the position you assume. The shell, a blend of fiberglass, thermoplastic, and composite, moves as you do rather than assuming a permanently molded shape, and a thin layer of foam provides just enough cushioning to save your undercarriage on long and rough rides. Fi'zi:k employed its WingFlex technology at the sides of the Antares to provide flexibility during downstroke, and covered the whole thing with a durable and easy-to-maintain Microtex synthetic cover.
Fi'zi:k opted to construct the rails from braided carbon fiber, which saves 30g over the company's proprietary K:ium alloy rails. The oval profile increases durability and a rough surface allows slip-free clamping, so you can pedal hard every day without worrying about saddle slippage or rail stress.
