The most impressive aspect of the Pierre Gignoux DNA Ski Boot is how Dynafit seamlessly integrated rocket boosters into the heels while maintaining a mind-boggling single-boot weight of barely over one pound. Skeptical? OK, maybe the DNA doesn't actually have built-in boosters, but it might as well, because it's the lightest in the world by a significant margin and makes other "lightweight" boots look like a bunch of lumbering dinosaurs.
Formerly known as the RC1, the DNA has the same full-carbon construction as its predecessor and was designed by skimo legend and carbon-fiber wizard Pierre Gignoux for unbeatable performance in the most intense rando races on the planet. The DNA is hand-built in France to exacting specs, ensuring top performance for super-serious ski runners looking for podium finishes.
Pierre put simplicity at the forefront of the DNA's design. A simple, reliable one-motion ski/walk switch unlocks the cuff to provide 75 degrees of rotation—probably more articulation than your ankle can handle—while the corded ankle closure keeps the cuff snug around your ankle. The instep ratchet buckle supplies a nearly endless amount of variation for comfortable climbing and descending, while the bikini-style liner provides just enough warmth and comfort to keep you at the front of the pack.
