Why We Like The Danner Mountain Light Boot

Unsurpassed craftsmanship, attention to detail, and superior materials are what make a Danner boot a Danner boot. The Mountain Light Boot uses that ultimate quality to pay homage to the iconic hiking boot styles that Danner designed in the early 1970s, and it's made in Portland, Oregon to ensure the utmost in quality. We do love the modern upgrades, however, like the Dri-Lex moisture-wicking liner for fending off chafe and blisters, and a Vibram Kletterlift outsole for incredible shock-absorption and traction on the toughest terrain.

great boot, provided it fits your foot

construction is excellent. i had to get a slightly smaller size (length) in this boot, but when i did it was a little narrow. this meant i ended up getting a size that was a little long so it would fit my width. i selected "true to size" because its not that it "runs small" or "runs large," its that it didnt fit me perfectly in both width and length in the same boot.

I ordered my normal shoe size based on the reviews saying these run large. They ended up being too small for heavy socks. I will not be exchanging them for a size up because the boot was also too narrow for my liking. I prefer a roomier foot box. Nice looking boot though!

if you need help with size…

writing this review because it was quite the process to figure out the right size for these shoes. i normally take an 8.5. i tried 7.5, 8, and 8.5 in these shoes. i do have wider feet. the 8.5 was humongous. the shoes was long, awkward, and clunky. so i exchanged and i tried an 8. the 8 felt good in the width but still felt a bit long in the toe and clunky on my foot. i tried a 7.5 and it was clear it was too tight. i did some reading about these shoes and decided to order the insoles from danner and the 8 again. the 8 with the insoles were perfect. i’ve been wearing them non stop. they are great on shorter hikes and to wear around town on trips. they are so comfy already and haven’t been difficult to break in. so please with this purchase! somehow scored 40% off too.

I bought these boots to use for a section hike if the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. I’ve work them around my neighborhood to break them in. I bought a size 10 as I am recently recovering from four broken toes. These boots are absolutely worth the investment. I wear them with hike wool hiking socks. They’re weatherproof, comfortable, and warm. I’m so happy with them and I plan on having them for many years to come. Not only are they great for the casual dog walk, or hike but they also look great to just run errands around in town. I love these boots.

I almost always wear a size 8. I measured the length of my foot, and it's 24.5 cm, which according to the chart here would make me an 8.5. So I actually bought both 8 and 8.5 to try on, and they are comically huge....even the size 8 that I normally wear. Am exchanging for a 7.5.

Liked this boot but it arrived damaged already. The smaller scratches I could get over but there was a pretty dark black mark of the toe of one of the boots and a large white scratch on the side of the other. Might just order another and see what condition that comes in. I realize it?s leather but doesn?t feel great to have new boots at this price be marked up already. I did end up sizing a half size down and that was the right size for my foot.

I have been waiting to but a pair for over 3 years. I purchased a basic pair of dinners and they are awesome no breaking time just comfrey and quick to dry. I finna;y had the money and want to buy the classsic dinners, and they are beyond perfection ! I have worn them many times with out socks and no issues and times with socks and it?s the same. They are a serious purchase and that?s why it took my 3 or more years to jump but they are worth it! I am an average hiker and camp 2-5 times a year, I have complicated nerve health issues or I would be out more. Bottom line I would wear theses to bed and dream of the life i had before my illness.

Great for travel and in snow

I have a narrow foot and a narrow heel. I loved the look of these boots for travel, because they could protect against many elements and look good for exploring both cities and trails. I was determined to break them in before a trip, but wasn?t able to do it as my heel would rub and I would get blisters every time I wore them. After leaving the boots with a cobbler who stretched the heel, the boots became much more comfortable, and I was able to continue breaking them in. After my first hike in the snow in these boots i am still impressed. Great comfort, style, and warmth. Glad I bought them!

Ready for winter!

Honestly, I bought these for the sake of fashion and the winter weather of the Northeast. I wanted something snow, slush and rain worthy that wasn't as cumbersome as a snow boot. I did purchase my typical shoe size, and the boots feel very comfortable with regular weight socks. As the weather gets colder a heavy wool sock will likely feel just as comfy, as they do not feel tight at all. These boots feel very well made. No break-in was necessary.
