Why We Like The Blade Runner Alpine Crampon

The climb is crazy, but CAMP USA's Blade Runner Alpine Crampon has a sharp fit and grip that ensures we won't slip. Designed with a proprietary Sandvik Nanoflex steel in the heel, it can flex without bending while the Chromoly steel platform upfront maintains utmost rigidity to keep it in place. Four different front points let us adjust for the best climbing style. So when we're climbing up a fine mix of rock, ice, and snow, we'll be locked in with confidence.

Bomber, Heavy, Confidence Inspiring

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
L
Height:

Weight:

While on the heavy end of the spectrum, the layout of the front points in particular really provide a stable purchase on all types of ice, and they really feel solid on mixed rock placements. The weight tradeoff is worth it, unless one was trekking deep into the backcountry when grams add up. I don't know what the previous reviewer is referring to as far as lack of front point availability - over the last three seasons I've purchase a number of replacement points (at the time of this review they are indeed in stock at Backcountry) for my and my wife's crampons. Maybe there was a production issue way back but apparently it has been resolved.

Good Crampons, Poor Product Support

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

First off, I'll say that these are decent crampons. I've put them through the wringer with about 70 pitches of ice the last two years and they performed better than other companies I've used. That being said, once you wear through the "replaceable" front points, you will not be able to find replacements. I've been looking for over a year to get replacement front points and even reached out to Camp directly but I've received radio silence. They are out of stock everywhere and have been for a long time. Front points are a consumable component of any crampon and pose a safety hazard if warn too short or corroded. These are the most expensive crampons out there and the fact that Camp does not support basic replacement parts is appalling. The crampons are still being sold and stocked so I don't buy that his is a supply chain issue. Save your money and support a company that supports it's products.
