Since its inception, the Burton Family Tree Spliff Splitboard has shaken up the splitboarding world, offering a fresh and fun way of shredding fresh powder, tight trees, and mellow(er) backcountry terrain without the excess swing weight and cumbersome turning radius of larger splitboards. Its relatively wide waist, S-Rocker profile, and lengthened tip and tail contacts (what Burton calls Side Effects) work in unison, helping you ride the Spliff a good 8 to 10-centimeters shorter than what you'd regular ride in the backcountry. Ultimately, this makes for a surprisingly stable splitboard that not only floats powder extremely well for its size, but one that's extremely playful with a super-short turning radius that's ideal for banking between tight trees. Don't take our word for it, Backcountry Magazine gave the Spliff an Editors' Choice Award in 2013, saying it has "...a one-of-a-kind shape that makes mellow BC terrain more fun."
Traditionally, splitboards have relied on drilled inserts to mount the binding pucks, subsequently limiting your stance angles and range, as well as making the entire ordeal a giant hassle to line-up properly. Not anymore. Burton's Channel split system is designed to be compatible with the standard Voile split interface, yet instead of limiting you with pre-drilled holes, the Channel split system offers an infinite range of stance options with its dual-Channel mounts. Note that the Spliff comes with pre-mounted Channel-compatible pucks.
Delving inside this pint-sized performer, you'll find a snappy Super Fly II core with Squeezebox core profiling for a smooth, consistent flex through the center of the board with slightly stiffer zones outside the bindings for enhanced control. Additionally, the tapered Pro-Tips reduce swing weight, allowing you to spin the Spliff with unprecedented ease, especially considering its smaller length. Add in a wax-thirsty, super-fast sintered base for plenty of speed needed to plane through untracked snow in the backcountry.
