Why We Like The Storm 500-R Headlamp
Black Diamond is enhancing its Storm headlamp lineup with the new R-Series lamps. This particular Storm 500-R Headlamp is a high-lumen and multi-mode lamp that gives us the power to fully illuminate our nights with nine different lighting modes and the potential for 5H of charge time at the highest setting. We really like that the Repreve headband stops that uncomfortable, hair-pulling sensation we often get with cheaper headlamps.

Very bright, great lamp
I bought this product for a trip to the Grand Canyon and it worked great. Battery life is very good, and it puts out a serious amount of light. I used the red and green functions quite a bit, and was very happy with how bright they were.

Packs a Punch!
Very powerful for being such a lightweight headlamp. Have used it for some night hikes and it works great!

Good headlamp that can be great!
Great Headlamp! Easy to use once you get the hang of it. Features including color, white light and dimming are useful. Three features that could be better: 1. charging port would be a usb-c instead of a micro-usb. (The headlamp does come with a micro usb to usb c adapter) 2. The charging port cover should be water proof. Doesn’t quite fit snug into port which when used in rain will allow water ingress. 3. Flexible Head strap should be wider. My previous black diamond headlamps had wider straps. Wider is more comfortable.

A great headlamp
I find it really useful and the battery life so far has been great and once I got used to it going through all the different modes as good but the printed diagrams in the instructions would have been better with a short description. USB C for one less cable would have been nice as well.

Good lamp
Headlamp is very bright... Nice for early morning runs. Can angle it down slightly which is a feature I needed when running with a dog. The only drawback is the incredibly short charging cord. I have to rig it up by placing an object underneath to keep it plugged into the outlet.

Excellent except for angle adjustment
I LOVE this headset, the side tap for max brightness, battery charge indicator, little blink if the light when hitting 100% brightness, and more are what makes this headset so great. One gripe, My 2 year old storm headlamp had definitive notches that made nice clicks when adjusting the headlamps angle. This new headset doesn’t have that, I’m not really sure how it is supposed to stay at a certain angle and just feels odd. Not too big of a deal but worth mentioning.

Fantastic Headlamp
I used this headlamp for hiking in the dark at 2 a.m. in the back of Arches NP to get some astrophotography shots. I was unfamiliar with the terrain, but this headlamp was bright and strong enough to let me see clearly and navigate confidently. I really enjoyed the dimming function. When other photographers approached, I could simply press and hold the button until the light dimmed to the desired level. The tilting mechanism feels higher quality in that it doesn't "clack" into place. The transition is smooth and sturdy. The memory feature was also a huge plus! I hate having to click through different settings to find a single light. Paired with the dimming feature, I was able to see and still stay respectful of other photographers when using this light. 10/10 would recommend.

A great headlamp!
The Storm 500-R is a great light. At maximum it is very bright. Double buttons make switching modes very easy. A perfect light for night back country skiing!

Good spot and brightness
Happy about the light output and ease on controls, but the hinge mechanism tends to want to be either closed or fully open for angle adjustment, so it's hard to get the angle where I want it sometimes.
