Why We Like The Black Diamond Sprinter 500 Headlamp
The Sprinter 500 is Black Diamond's premium headlamp for runners who rack up miles after sunset or before sunrise. With 500 lumens on its brightest setting, it gives us plenty of night vision while the PowerTap technology lets us adjust our brightness setting up or down with simple taps. The single-button interface makes it easy to turn the lamp off and on and switch between six modes, and the digital lockout feature prevents the lamp from accidentally turning on in our pocket or pack. Conveniently, the Sprinter features two power options—it can run off three AAA batteries (sold separately) or the included rechargeable Lithion Ion battery, giving us backup options on long, overnight runs. Light on our heads yet bright on the trail, the Sprinter 500 Headlamp helps us run safely on the road and on the trail.

Light up the overnight Ultras
I love my Black diamond Spot 400, but I upgraded to the Sprinter 500 headlamp to power through the night when I am running 100M Ultras. Initially, I was worried that the Sprinter 500 would be too bulky, but the design is actually quite comfortable.

Simple and effective
Not as bright as I was hoping for. Trail running in the forest at night is doable with this headlamp but not ideal. Not great vis in foggy/misty conditions due to only the single flood light setting. Love the simplified controls, very comfortable also.

Great Headlamp For Running, Consistent Issues However (Just went through the 2nd one)
Have the headlamp for night trail running in Victoria BC, Canada. First headlamp - stopped charging with the li battery for some reason. Used batteries for a while, then same issue happened. Just stopped cooperating. Headlamp would turn on with the li battery plugged in, but would instantly die if it wasn't plugged in (this headlamp was ~ a year in). Second headlamp - just "failed". Yesterday I went to grab my headlamp and the rear light as well as 3 LED lights were blinking at random increments. The li battery will charge, but now the rear light blinks at all time, no matter trying to turn off setting. Front light will not stay on, just flicker on then turn off. Very frustrating as now we are entering winter season and I rely on this headlamp for after work runs. Warranty process unfortunately is not swift through the store I bought from. Black Diamond - can you please help? .... Did I get two lemons back to back? I will try to warranty again I suppose?

Bright running light
Fantastic light perfect for night runs. I went on some pitch black trails in the forest and could see great đź‘Ť I also really appreciate the red light on the back when I'm on the roads.

Sprinter 500 headlamp elastic stretched out
I love this headlamp and really want to continue using it but the elastic has stretched out so much-it has lost its elasticity and falls down on my face! So, I can’t use it anymore on my runs unless I hold it in my hands! I’ve tried pinning and sewing but nothing works! Wish they had a replacent strap!

Bright, even, wide-field light
Bright, even, wide-field light. The Black Diamond LED headlamp I bought a couple of decades ago has a nearly 180 degree tilt range, so I was concerned to see that the Sprinter 500 has only about 45 degrees of tilt. But the light field is so much superior that it is not an issue. I use a headlamp mostly for home repairs, under sinks, up in attics, other awkward places. The Sprinter is perfect for this.

Battery compartment not sweatproof
I really wanted to love this, and used the predecessor for many years. My problem is the batter compartment is not sealed, and while it is splash proof, persistent sweat gets pulled in through capillary action and will eventually kill it the electronics. It’s a design flaw that it lacks any sort of gasket around the battery compartment.

Best running head lamp
My wife and I have been using this head lamp for at least 10 years. We’ve used it for early morning ascents, full moon xc ski nights, and it is one of our most essential camping tools. We love it. I think it’s marketed towards running however the head strapping is comfortable and serves any activity with a little more movement. No buyers remorse. This is a great piece of gear.

Love it!
This a compact yet powerful headlamp that gets the job done on technical trails at night. I love the option of using the rechargeable power pack or the same batteries that fit my backup headlamp.
