Why We Like The Outdoor Research Astroman Air Sun Hoodie

Outdoor Research's Astroman Air Sun Hoodie walks the line between full coverage and summer comfort. The lightweight fabric offers UPF 30 sun protection, keeping sun rays at bay while we camp, fish, and climb in the blue-sky months. Despite its burly materials, this sun shirt is surprisingly breathable, and it's made with laser-cut ventilation to keep us even cooler. Quick-drying fibers let sweat and river water evaporate, and the fixed hood keeps us covered from that solar laser in the sky.

Great so far

Love this piece so far. I'm 6'4", 250lbs and the XL fits me great. I typically need to order XLT shirts but this is sized well for me. Sleeves are good length but wouldn't have minded another inch. Thumb holes would have been nice. I have to maneuver a little to get it over my chest (46 inch) but it's not a problem, just noticeable. The material has a nice stretch to it. Might have a shirt on underneath or nothing under depending on temperature and wind. Love the hood fit with or without a hat. Zipped up the hood stays on well. Zippers work well. I've washed it several times now and the material and color still look new. Washing on delicate and hang dry. I like it so much I might get another.

Tight across the back and shoulders and quite short on arms.

This did not fit in a medium, yet the OR Alpine Onset Merino 150 Hoody in medium fits perfectly and with room to spare, considering it is a baselayer I would try the next size up in this Astroman but falling right in between sizes M and L on the chart, it probably will be too wide, like another windshirt from OR that I have tried in both M and L (Tantrum 2). I cannot understand why a sun shirt/hoody would fit like a baselayer but there you have it. While the next size up with be ok in the upper torso and arm length, it does not have any elastic or adjustment on the hem so would probably be baggy like a skirt on me. The arms also felt a bit short and had no articulation but I cannot be sure as the overall size is possibly wrong. On me, the waist and hem and neck were all roomy enough but the chest/back was tight and arm length was not long enough or articulated enough for reaching. I am a size M in dead bird, if that helps, but in between with OR, apparently.

Decent

NO thumb holes!! I missed this in the description for this redesign. Alittle disappointed in that. All around good hoody, but would've been perfect with this little feature added. Fitment is alittle tight across back, so sleeves pull down over time. Thumb holes would've helped with that. Material is stretchy enough to not be uncomfortable, but noticeable. 5'10" 185lb muscular build. I'm normally a medium to large in sizing. I went with large. I'd error on sizing up if you're close.
