Why We Like The Astral Green Jacket Personal Flotation Device
The Green Jacket Personal Flotation Device is Astral's most innovative and comfortable life vest. This is a PFD for river guides and expedition paddlers that's been tested in the most extreme paddling environments. The Tectonic foam panel fit system allows the outer panel to move freely to maximize our mobility while the inner panel stays planted against our body to keep our PFD in place. There's a quick-release harness that's stitched into the side of the vest for integrity, rope-ready storage under the front panel, and side pockets to store our throw rope. Even with this laundry list of forward-thinking safety features, the Green Jacket still rides low and compact to stay out of our way while we're paddling.

Solid PFD, maybe not the best fit for women
I bought this jacket to replace an old Wonder Pro. I wanted a PFD with a rescue belt. I tried on all the major brands’ rescue jackets and this one seemed to fit the best. But it still squishes my boobs and I’m not even that busty. The Wonder Pro had space for boobs and was so comfortable. I looked at the Layla and it fit the best and I like that you can add the belt, but I wanted a more substantial pocket. I feel like brands have kind of gone backwards in terms of women specific rescue vests. They all seem to be unisex, but in reality, we’re built differently and need a rescue vest that fits a woman’s body. While not super comfortable, it does the job and will keep me afloat. It’s a high quality piece of gear. I’m not a huge fan of the knife placement either as it gets caught when self rescuing in a raft but I’m also short so it’s easy to get snagged. I just Astral offered a women’s specific version of the green jacket and the indus.

Robust construction packed with features
The GreenJacket is a solid-performing Type V pfd. My favorite features are the clamshell pocket, robust construction, chest area to store gloves or radio, and the bright orange color. I use this primarily for sea kayaking in the Atlantic Ocean, but it’s nice to know I’m prepared for ‘go’ rescues as a swiftwater rescue technician with the fire department. The M/L fits me well as a 5’9” 170 lb male wearing fleece and drysuit.

Best life jacket ever
Amazing, this is my 4th green jacket and I am hooked with the simply lightweight design that is ultra durable and provides better range of motion than most other jackets. I use this for personal paddling, instructing, Swiftwater rescue, and it's multi purpose enough I even use it for recreational paddling

Likely still the best; one feature change quibble
The green jacket still seems like the obvious best choice for most kayakers. Since my last one about six years ago, the only change seems to be they’ve moved the knife attachment point to the right/middle. With my knife, this means the knife now blocks access to the tow line clip on the front of the life jacket, which is somewhat annoying. Otherwise still excellent.

Astral 4ever
I love this thing! I am pretty tiny so I wish there was an XS option, but this PFD is one of the best out there.

Still my go-to
This is my second green jacket and the fit and comfort is great. It does stick out in the chest region more than I’d prefer. Still a great life jacket.

Love this!!
Reason for 4 stars: as a women, this PFD doesn't fit super comfortable around your boobs. I love everything about it though! I have medium sized boobs and I always have to yank it really far down under my boob (even though there isn't an option to lengthen the shoulder straps) so that the belly part of the PFD doesn't crush my boobs. Other than that, I love this PFD and highly recommend it. All of the zippers are easy to access and love that it slips on and off like a hoodie!

The One & Only
This is my, and should be your'n, Go-To PFD. My previous one, which was the LE4 2010 purple and yellow (RIP Kobe), was used and abused for a decade and saw lots whitewater all over the country. I kayak, raft, SUP, canoe, and occasionally swim Class I-V and I wouldn't want anything except the Astral Greenjacket to have and to hold (me).
