Go off on a tangent.

First impressions of Zipp may leave you thinking it’s a company of aerodynamic wheels and components, but don't let that sway you from exploring its line of tires. Zipps new Tubeless Tangente Speed Tire, in particular, is one that has our attention heightened. Much like other tires from the Tangente line, the Tubeless Tangente Speed is designed to lower rolling resistance as much as possible, aiming for better handling and a smoother ride over all kinds of paved and cobbled surfaces. Tubeless technology is then thrown into the mix, smoothing things out further, and providing protection from punctures along the way.

These new tubeless tires are modeled after Zipp's wide road clincher tires, the Tangente Speed R28 and R25. As such, they feature the same tread pattern, ensuring grip when cornering, and a high 128-TPI casing that holds onto the road with tacky control. If tubeless protection isn't enough to ease your mind from flats, a polyamide puncture protection layer under tread should help seal the deal. This durable layer stands up to road debris and protects from stray nails, glass, and goatheads when you're riding along.

  • Race ready tubeless tires for exceptional grip
  • Tread pattern you know and love from Tangente line
  • Tubeless protection from pinch flats and punctures
  • Reduced rolling resistance, and comfort in lower tire pressures
  • Polyamide puncture protection shields from road debris
  • Water-siping tread pattern pulls away precipitation
  • Designed exclusively for tubeless wheelsets and use without tire levers

Pleasantly impressed

So I decided to give these a try on my 202 firecrest disk under a Lynskey Helix. So far I have 1400mi on these tires. Even without sealant they hold pressure (I did put sealant in). I recently did 667mi in six days in Wisconsin averaging 17.5 cumulative. They withstood 20ish miles of rough gravel, rough roads, functioned great during rain and wet roads on three different days, felt stable during 38+mph decents, climbed well. Each morning when I checked pressure they were still spot on. I was a little apprehensive because I usually run conti’s. These are great to mount and truly have no complaints.

So far so good!

Bought these (28mm) as an alternative to my go-to tubeless tires (Conti 5000 TL) as the Contis are not recommended on hookless rims (Zipp 303S). So, good news first, they were very easy to put onto the rim using thumb pressure only, about the same as opening a bottle of champagne ;-) But inflation, well... Floor pump - no. CO2 cartridge - not even close. Auto tire compressor, barely a hint of a seal. Finally broke out the big compressor which worked fine. Caveat - for attempts 2 and 3 I did NOT try the hack of removing the valve core. The car compressor was clearly struggling to get air past the valve and removing the core might have done the trick. Anyway, once on they sealed very well and are dropping only 1-2 psi each day. The tires are very comfortable and very fast running at Zipps recommended 59/63 and so far (500 miles) no nicks in the tread. Fingers crossed...

Im giving these a 5 star review. Im comparing them to the Mavic Tubeless tires that have nothing but dreadful. Off the bat these have different feeling. Almost a little sound that comes from the grip. Maybe it runs out after a few more rides. Either way these are a welcome addition to my new wheels. I pray these are as durable as ive found in my research. My first use of Zipp tires has been on par with what was expected. Update: Better than expected. Confident when wet. Feels pretty good all around. Grip is great. Ride is great. Installation easy, maybe its due to all the experience I’ve been getting with tubeless over the past few months.

Do not buy

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Zipp apparently uses wet toilet paper to make these. Hit a small rock in road with left side of back tire. Had a 2-3mm wide horizontal nick in sidewall that Stan's sealer did not seal. Very first ride on these & new set of Zipp 404 NSW tubeless wheels & stranded 13 miles from home. After walking 2 miles I was lucky to get a ride home. 11 years & over 20K miles on tubes & Continental GP 4000s & I can count count on both hands how many flats I have had. ZERO resulted in having to walk.

That has been my luck with tubeless road tires, never a sealable puncture always a cut. Not fun trying to install a tube road side with slick sealant all over every... Not like MTB tires that run lower air pressure and less likely to flat.

Great Tires

I've put it through the wringer

These tires worked great with my ultegra tubeless wheels, mounted really easy. I have ridden these on gravel and in the rain and I have had no sliding. For such little tread the ride is smooth and grippy.
