    Climber-light and sprinter-strong.

When you want a stem that won't bow to the pressures of a pack sprint, Zipp has the answer. The Zipp SL Sprint Carbon Stem is the updated version of its highly popular SL145. It is strong enough for the most aggressive pack sprint, yet it is light enough to satisfy the weight-weenie in all of us. Like the SL145, the SL Sprint Carbon Stem has a +/-12 degree angle. What this means is that the effective stem angle is 77.5 degrees relative to the steerer tube. While this is not parallel to the ground as in a 73 degree stem, it is much more aero than the 80-84 degree angle range provided my most other manufacturers.

The stem was created as a complement to the rest of its race-worthy carbon cockpit offerings. Both the stem and faceplate were constructed with unidirectional, hand-wrapped carbon fiber. They were then treated with a clear coat, giving the overall finished stem a lustrous look. The faceplate and steerer tube bolts are titanium, but not just any titanium; Zipp sourced these bolts from the same Italian producer used by the Ducati MotoGP racing program.

    • Stem with stiffness and power transfer for road sprinters
    • Unidirectional carbon body with titanium hardware for low weight
    • Included insert adapts the stem for 1in steerer tubes
    • Angle of stem provides superior levels of aerodynamics
    • Item #ZIP005N

This is the *new* Zipp SL Sprint carbon stem (with new stealth graphics).

You buy this stem because it is super strong. Great for crit and sprint use. The 78º angle gives a slightly lower, more aggressive riding position compared the more commonly found 84º rise.

No one makes a better aero carbon road stem. American company/design. Great stuff.

By the way, Zipp uses Torx fasteners because they are "simply a better bolt." As Zipp explains, "They are more durable (strip less). And they provide more accurate torque readings."

Install note: This stem is a work of carbon art. You must use a quality torque wrench (or one of Park's excellent new torque keys @ $45) to tighten the bolts (cross X) to spec (6 Nm max torque).

If you have a carbon bar, add a swipe of grip paste (I rec Finish Line, $7/tube). Don't over tighten. And you don't need to if you use a torque key and grip paste.

Will this stem fit a cervelo s5 aero bar?

      Hey Joe!

It will work with any handlebar that has a 31.8mm clamp diameter, which covers most handlebars that you’ll see speced on road bikes these days. If you're not sure, feel free to shoot me some pictures of your handlebar, and I'd be happy to verify!
