    Zipp's SL-70 Aero Carbon Handlebar builds on the legacy of the VukaSprint to offer a road handlebar with unrivaled fit and aerodynamic performance. Manufactured from unidirectional carbon fiber, the SL-70 features a distinctive wing-shape that uses Computational Fluid Dynamics, the same software used to design Zipp's highly-acclaimed Firecrest wheels. And, surprise, CFD got it right.

    According to Zipp, the SL-70's airfoil-shaped section saves you 6.4 watts at 30 mph over a traditional round-tube section. The SL-70s ensure precise steering with a 70mm reach, and a 128mm drop gives you plenty of for adjustments. The drops curve outward at a 4-degree angle, allowing you to tuck in a more aerodynamic position with more stability. The brake hood mount area features a 10-degree ramp angle, so you won't have to rotate the bars to find the right brake hood position.

    Great aero bars

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    I like the SL-70 aero bars a lot - are they faster? It sure feels like it, although I haven't done any formal aero testing. They are stiff, comfy, and make me feel fast, so I can't complain.

    I had heard that carbon bars (aero or not) were a terrible idea, since they're so fragile - but I haven't found this to be the case. I've had the bike tip over while leaning against a car, no issue. Crashed in a crit or two, no issue.

    My bars finally met their match in a different crit crash (slid out at 35 mph on rough pavement), but I'm not sure even aluminum bars would have survived that..

    One thing to keep in mind with these is that the reach is way shorter than I expected, which can change your bike fit depending on what bars you had before.
