Nice Shades

I've put it through the wringer

I've been wearing these shades almost daily since I bought them. The lenses have good quality polarization/clarity. The frames also feel very study and have a subtle rubber-lke coating that ensures that they stay on my head. Overall I'm happy with these glasses and would recommend them for anyone who wants polarized glasses that are durable to take a beating.

To create something truly meaningful, we each must become proficient explorers - prodding and pulling at the mystery until the thing that we had set out to find unravels before our very eyes. Mishaps and misadventure are simply a sign leading us ever closer on our quest to discover, and the only currency called for is time.

ZEAL Optics Ellume Challenge

ZEAL set out to put our ellume lenses to the test in our backyard of Boulder, CO. A quick stop on Pearl Street Mall and Chautauqua Park proved to be the perfect sun-drenched testing grounds to demonstrate the color-enhancing clarity and craftsmanship in our plant-based, polarized lenses. Don't take our word for it; see for yourself.

Capitol Sunglasses: Only By Zeal Optics

While the Colorado state capitol’s golden dome glistens over Denver, Capitol Peak governs over the Rocky Mountains high above the Roaring Fork Valley. Soaring 9,000 feet and girded by a knife ridge, Capitol holds sway over some of the most magnificent views and ascents the West has to offer. This sky-piercing pyramid’s rugged majesty defines independence and has inspired many, and been tamed by none.At the confluence of form, function and chiseled beauty lies the ZEAL CAPITOL.

focus issues

I've used it several times

Fit was perfect. Coloring, tint, and clarity was perfect. The lenses looked a bit less blue than the picture, though I didn't mind much. The part why I ultimately tried to return them was that they screwed with my eye's focal point. Felt like it was pulling my eyes inward towards each other, which led to eye strain and blurry stuff while driving. I have a few sets of sunglasses I always carry around, so got the chance to try these side by side with some others(oakley & revant & costa del mar). None of the others had this issue of pulling my focal point. I have strong opinions about sunglasses given they sit within an inch from your eyeballs where tiny issues are a big deal. This honestly could just be the shape of my face with the distance of my eyes. I'm not a fan of reviews that basically say "this wasn't made for my exact body shape," but I think it's important here cause some sunglass lenses handle that better than others.

Hi Greg, Thank you for this feedback on the Capitols. I can pass this along to our customer service team to look into what you experienced. Feel free to always reach out to our customer service directly here: Best, Hayley

Great optics and looks w/a sturdy build.

I've put it through the wringer

I was given this product by Backcountry to review, but this review Is my personal opinion. Impression: The Zeal Capitol sunglasses have quickly become part of my daily carry. While I've used Oakley Frogskins as a sad excuse for daily shades for about a year now, the Capitol's have quickly replaced them for time in the city and on the river. These have become my go-to's for fly-fishing, beach trips, spring ski-touring, and sunny beer drinking. The quality of their construction and their durability outstrips other sunglasses at this price point. The photos on Backcountry do the appearance and color justice. Fit: The lenses are large and the frame is comfortable on my average-male-sized face. The rubberized pads on the nose and temples keep these sunglasses far more secure than I'm used to, while also not being noticeable during use. The hinges are tight and the hold a fold well. Optics: The Ellume Copper lens is a moderately dark tint that hits the goldilocks zone for both semi-bright use in forested areas as well as in bright sun on the ocean or mountain. The lenses are plastic, so they're safe for velocity sports, but the optical quality is high, and while I've babied them, they're pretty resistant to scratches. The polarizer is high-quality, far better than Oakley and Revant lenses I've used, giving great visibility into rivers and reducing glare off of snow. It was a really nice tint for spring skiing up on Mt Hood, and while the sides obviously aren't shaded in the way that one would want for a true glacier sunglass, their large lenses cover the field of view well enough to take out on half-day tours without worrying about going sunblind. Bottom line: While I got recruited for this review, I'm allowed to say bad things. I've got nothing bad to say about the Zeal Capitol sunglasses, and I would gladly pay for these shades. As a daily driver, they're sturdy, secure, good-looking, and have great optics. 5/5.

Lightweight and Built to Last

I've put it through the wringer

These glasses are lightweight and built to last. The nose and temple pads create a more secure fit not only when you are wearing the glasses but also when they are up on my head/hat I don't have to worry about them slipping or falling off.
