Second pair after 3.5 years...These boots are the best. As an ISA Certified Arborist, exceptional footwear is a critical part of daily equipment. Zamberlan have held up to the stresses of working in trees, backpacking in the Appalachian MT (NC, TN, WV, VA), UVM work in multiple states, & California PI work from canyon floor to mountain peak. I upgraded from my last pair and plan on upgrading again to have a back-up pair. All my local outdoor stores were out of the size and style I needed. Backcountry is dependable. After ordering, I had the boots within three days, and by day four was sporting new kicks up the side of the mountain. I highly recommend these boots or any line of Zamberlan boots. I also highly recommend purchasing from Backcountry.

The boots fit me right out of the box. Needs a limited amount of breaking in. Very comfortable right from the start. Great quality workmanship. Too early to discuss longevity, but I suspect that I'll have these boots for years. Definitely recommend.

Ok, here's my story and I'm sticking to it. I do not have more than a couple of dozen moderately strenuous 6 mile hikes under my belt yet, but have decided to change that to a weekly hike - gradually increasing length and difficulty as things/life allows. Before this purchase I had a very good bang for the old buck hiker, but noticed on the last hike I was starting to really feel those rocks underfoot more than I had been, so I decided to search for another boot. Now, a bit more background - I'm 66 years old, with some age related physical issues - sciatica, bad knees and flat arches. Given that picture I was looking for a boot that would provide excellent support - especially laterally, over those very rocky trails, good traction, good construction, comfortable and even though I would not be carrying heavy packs, this took me into the hiking/backpacking boot area rather than the lighter hiker offerings. I could deal with the extra weight and perhaps a longer break-in time over the lighter hiking boots if it would offer me that extra support I need in a boot. In these Covid times, having the opportunity of going into a store and checking out a half dozen or more boots was not an option. So I went about reading online reviews and checking the specs on a bunch of the heavier boots. Bottom line is that out of the box these were simply extremely comfortable and of a very noticeable high quality - but then again at almost twice the price of most boots that;s to be expected. The fact that these are boots are made in Italy was not lost on me either. Opening the box, I immediately knew these were a very high quality and beautiful pair of boots - all stitching and seams were perfect. Being an older guy, I'm partial to the retro stye, leather boots, rather than the more modern, multicolored offerings - but only if they work. These sure do! Putting them on for the first time, they seemed a little tight (I'm a size 10.5) but after lacing them up and walking around the house and up and down the stairs and within minutes these began fitting like the proverbial glove. With that confidence inspiring quick fitting, I took them on 2 hikes this week with my family - both about 6 miles over very rocky, hilly, sometimes muddy trails. These boots offered excellent lateral support, especially over rocks as well isolating/protecting from the feel/pain of hiking over some of those not so flat rocks. The soles provided very good traction and support on ascending and descending the trails. The soles - with that "rocker" motion really does, for lack of a better word, does "propel" you forward. The lacing hardware looks to be extremely well made and durable. The calf leather lined collars provide nice comfort above the ankles. When the boots got muddy, I simply stood in a stream and had the moving water clean 'em up. Although I did not spend minutes in the stream, I was pleased no water got inside the boots. The leather is coated/waterproofed from the factory, but of course will require additional waterproofing as they get worn - same as any boots. I hated to scuff these all leather beauties up but did so within the first mile or so on the trail. The toe rand on any hiking boots IMHO, is an absolute necessity in preventing undo and inevitable damage to the toe area. If I had one "suggestion/improvement" to make for this boot, it would be to have a full rand around the entire boot - but that's also because I'm rough on my shoes/boots when wearing them, but I also know taking proper care and cleaning of shoes/boots goes is essential for comfort and longevity. I realize that most people don't need the extra protection of a backpacking boot, but for those that do - myself included, I'm extremely happy with my choice and would recommend them in a heartbeat for anyone looking for a classic boot, made with real deal one-piece leather that's built to last. Liked these so much, I just placed an order of the women?s version for my wife and daughter.
