Gets the job done, but won't buy again

This this good value tier bike mount, but after using it for a year, loading up 2-3 times a week, it has not held up to my level of use. The rubber on the hold down hooks wore off in the first couple months, so I replace it with a piece foam insulation from the hardware store. Also the rachting system on the hold down pole is difficult to operate and I frequently find myself hitting the release button with heavy objects to get it to release. All in all thought it is a good option for the cost.

perfect for tough installs.

I needed a 1 1/4 hitch but needed a longer reach and this was the only rack that worked. put something between your frame and the arm to ovoid paint wear.

Great bike-rack if you don't want to spend $400+ on a mode of bike transportation. This rack tilts down to fit most car trunk accessibility, and is light weight as to not add extra bulk to your already heavy vehicle.

Great value!

I comparison shopped much more than usual for a bike rack. There are so many more expensive options and I couldn't see why I would get those over this little Yakima. I read all of the reviews and decided to pull the trigger on this deal. Any fears I had were alleviated immediately. Easy to rack your bike - the tie downs are all super secure, intuitive to strap them on. I have no complaints.

Take more friends with you and get those bikes out of the back. This rack is light, strong, and durable. It is a snap to install and fits multiple trailer hitch receiver sizes. Will fit road and mountain tires up to 2.5 no problem. Better look elsewhere for fat tire bikes. Otherwise a good all around rack for those travelers who like to bring the bikes.

Decent rack for occasional use

This rack is fairly easy to use, but installation has one glaring flaw that makes it a pain: instead of a cotter pin to keep the rack in the receiver of the hitch, it uses a bolt. This means you need to tighten it with a wrench -- a tedious process if there is limited clearance and you don't have the right size ratchet wrench. Other than that, it's fine. Note that to accommodate a fat bike you need to buy different straps, which was not clear from the product description.

Bolt is absolutely necessary unless you want your rack to bounce all over the place

What is the maximum wheel span that can fit on this rack? Can it hold a tandem bike?

Hey Amit, this rack doesn't accommodate a tandem. We do have solutions for that. Please contact me at 801.204.4556 or araines@backcountry.com and we can discuss those options.

How well does this carrier do with full suspension mtn bikes? Specifically regarding the middle arm hold down?

You see it as a glaring flaw, but I see the bolt as a plus.
