As aero as the sky.
For secure rooftop cargo transportation, it's hard to see past Yakima's SkyBox Lo Carbonite Cargo Box. Actually, it's really easy to see past it because of its low-profile, aero design, which equates to mounting an extra trunk on your roof without the drag tax of boxier models. Internal lid supports maintain the 80% recycled Carbonite lid's structural integrity, which in turn keeps your gear riding pretty.

Bring more Stuff
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
In taking advantage of what nature has to offer in the Utah area, we decided this year instead of throwing all our snow gear in the back of the SUV this year we would put it a box and leave it. This box has plenty of room to put both our cross country skis, her powder skis, my snowboard, and a few other items. We now simply leave them all in the box and simply pull out what we need for given activity.
Now this is not a fault of the box itself but we have a Toyota 4-Runner with the OEM roof bars and yes Yakima said it did not fit the vehicle, but I made it fit and drilled a couple new holes for the bar clamps. It would be nice if it had a bit more room to slide the clamps around. The reason I mentioned that is I am now curious if that has to do with the issues I have opening the box. It doesn't matter if it's the left or right side but using the latch to get it to open is very difficult.
I guess we will never know as we love it enough that we won't be taking it off anytime soon.
Sleek and Easy to Install
The installation on this box was extremely easy and quick. The box looks great, and was kept by Yakima as they downsized on their product availability, for a good reason.
What a Baller Box
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
This Yakima box is so freaking awesome and I cant even stand it. The low profile of the box is so nice not feeling affected by wind while driving and still fitting in parking garages. This box has some great adjust-ability and has great ease of use while opening and closing the box. I am going to put a mat or something of the sort in the bottom to make sure nothing slides around but other than that the box is Baller!
Sleek and Lo Profile
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I've been a bit skeptical on buying a SkyBox for my Subaru Forester, but I have to admit that my expectations were exceeded with the SkyBox Lo Carbonite. I didn't want to deal with having a bulky and tall box on top of my car, when Yakima says Lo - they mean Low and without compromising cargo space. The slim aerodynamic design along with the new Carbonite textured lid substantially cut down on wind noise that I've noticed on trips with other boxes. It is also capable of opening on either side, which makes things that much more convenient on trips. No assembly required. Assembly is tool-free installation/removal on any vehicle, it fits Yakima round, factory, aerodynamic and square bars which means it is compatible with nearly all vehicles that have or can have cross bars attached to.
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I gave this as a gift to my older bro, but here's what he had to say!!
I love my cargo box. It was easy to install. The opening from either side feature is great and convenient. I was able to fit two snowboards, two pairs of skis/poles plus gear! I have a jeep so this is a great way to add cargo space. The latch forces you to lock it in order to remove the key. I find this a great feature because it basically makes it impossible to forget to lock it. The low-profile design is perfect. It adds a minimal amount of height to your vehicle but has a lot of room inside. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking at a cargo box but that may be concerned about height.
With the SKS Integrated Lock System, I bought a pack of them just so that all my
cross bars, and bike locks will be on the same key. So the question is, can I pop out the STS that comes with the product and install one from my pack? Or will I be stuck with 2 different keys?
