    Sturdy Supports

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have these on my 2012 Scion XD and they work perfectly and are super secure. I have used these in conjunction with the Thule Canyon XT roof rack and the two pair perfectly together. The only advice I have on this is to make sure you measure where they go on the bar exactly, if you are off by just a bit it is nearly impossible to get the towers to ratchet down correctly.

I love how I can use all my Yakima accessories with them. No need to get new systems. I can still use my round bars, hully rollers, ski & bike racks for the price of the q towers. Yakima does it right!!!

    A solid base

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Yakima Q Towers provide a very solid foundation to your rack system. They attach easily when paired with the correct Q clips and lock the load bars tightly. I have not seen any slippage on the roof nor have I had to adjust these after the initial installation.

    Tried and true

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The q-tower system by Yakima has been around for a long time. Simple and easy to work with. Does it look as sleak and cool as some others? Nope, but functions like a champ. I've purchased several sets for several different cars. Be sure to by your locks when you buy these.

Great for cars without factor bars!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Just got these for the Civic, they work great! I also got the Q clips to attach them to the car and am using a set of old round cross bars that have been sitting in the garage for several years. The set-up is perfect! We attach a cargo box and ski rack to them, not complaints so far. I wish this pair came with locks, so someone can't steal your whole set-up, but no complaints other than that.

Good option for cars w/out factory rails

I recently put together and installed the Q-tower rack system on my Subaru Legacy sedan, which did not have the factory rack mounting points in the roof rails like most newer Subarus. I definitely prefer a rack setup that uses built in mounting points rather than the Q-towers, but they are a perfectly good option when the former are not available. Installation was straightforward other than being a bit annoying running back and forth to get the spacing and tension balanced for each bar. No complaints since getting them installed, they've been solid and quiet even with ski racks and skis on highway trips. Note that this set of Q-towers includes 4 end caps for the round bars, so no need to buy those separately.

      sturdy roof rack base

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

These towers are a great economical way to mount a roof rack on your car with a bare roof. They're sturdy and easy to install when you need the rack on and easy to take off for when you're wanting to save your gas mileage.

      Solid roof system

I really like the round bar of the Yakima racks because there are a lot of after-market companies that make compatible accessories and it allows certain accessories like the kayak and front bike wheel holders to be pushed down when not in use. We do not have the faring so it is a little loud but not loud enough to get the faring.

        Solid Towers

The Q Towers are solid and hold Yakima round load bars securely. You can install these and forget about them until the next time you need to move your rack. Be sure to pick up the correct Q Clips for your vehicle and some locks.

          Very satisfied so far

Great so far, just make sure you follow the instructions and do the correct measurements. This is the only rack that will fit a 2010 VW Tiguan. Looks Great, couldn't be happier. Get the Fairing it will save you lots of wind noise.

          Very satisfied so far

          Rust and paint problems

in their defense it could be that i drew a bad pair. hopefully they've fixed them since i last purchased. i wont buy yakima again with this quality- they've already got me once.

          Really Impressed

Installed these in about an hour and a half on my '00 Maxima. Really impressed by how sturdy they feel. Yakima really did their homework. The rubber pads between the tower and my car should do a decent job of keeping dirt and scratches away.

5 stars not because they're the perfect rack system, but because they work incredibly well on a car not designed for a rack. Obviously roof rails are better, but if you're rocking the naked roof, these should do the job :)

            Yakima or Thule

I own both and find both equally well built. With either you need to purchase accessories to manage the gear and Load Stoppers are a base minimum if you intend to use them for anything generic. I use the racks for camping gear as well as hauling home project lumber and such. They have never let me down. I have more extensive experience with the the Yakima system and like the round bars as gear is easy to move as it slides freely on the round bars until it is tied down.

Hi, Bought a camper shell; has the tower set on top! have removed them; they came off well! the key will not open the pins to place back on; what should I consider?

If you don't have the key to the lock or it isn't working, you can contact Yakima directly. If you give them the part # of the rack, they should be able to send you a replacement key that will work on it.

I have a dodge grand caravan 2011...which of the q towers do I need to order, along with what accessiories?

According to Yakima's website and their "Rack Finder"...there are no Q-clips for your vehicle. They may or may not make them in the future. As for the Q towers - there is only one kind, the Q-clips make them fit individual vehicles. But depending on what you have on the top of your car (totally naked or something up there) might find something else that would work. I'd check out or give them a call.

I have the older 105 q towers and have to switch vehicles which requires a stretch kit. I have figured out at I need the 1106 stretch, but it is hard to find. Is it the same as the SST stretch, it seems to have the same model number 1106. Wasn't sure if the SST stretch will work on the 105 towers

I have a 2006 f-250 ford extracab pickup that I want to convert a Taylor Wing wind deflector from a box mount to a roof mount. Taylor representitive said you could help me out. It's a big wing 32" high X 60" long so it will have a lot oa wind resistnce. Will your product keep it on the roof ?

I assume you wanna use the wing while pulling your trailer? I am no Yakima rep but I have seen these used for that no problem... as long as the Yakima setup you order is specifically designed for your rig, then I would say it will work fine... Just make sure that the mounting of the wing falls between the rail holders/towers, for support.

I own a Pontiac Vibe, 2009. WIll this roof rack work on my vehicle? I plan to use it to carry my 10 foot Perception River Kayak.

It will work. Along with the Q-Towers, you will also need to purchase a set of 58" CrossBars and sets of Q83 and Q34 clips which are necessary to fit your particular car. In order to carry a kayak, you will also need to consider which accessory to by. As you most likely know, Yakima racks can carry anything from lumber to kayaks, to bikes. The best accessory for carrying a kayak is the BigStack. Or if cost is an issue the Kayak Stacker will work well. They both offer security and ease of getting the kayak on and off your car. Hope this helps...

I recently got a set of Q Towers for my subaru impreza sti 4 door. I measured everything exactly but am still having some issues putting them on? For starters - it feels like i am cranking them all the way down (evenly mind you) and they still have a little left to right wiggle when i use a lot of pressure. Is this normal? Or should they be completely solid? Also, when i do this the locks won't lock all the way? They are fine when everything isn't tensioned - but once it is they don't turn all the way. Any ideas?? Am i crazy??

This may seem like a stupid question - but do you have the crossbar running between them or are you setting them up first and planning on putting the crossbar through next? If you don't have the bar in there you'll just be able to crank way down on them. If you do, and you're still cranking way down, trying moving the towers a little further in (toward the middle of the car) on the crossbar and locking them in place there. Good luck.

will these Q towers work on my 2008 chevy aveo?

Yes these will work, but you will also need a set of Q-clips to match your vehicle. For the 2008 Chevy Aveo, you are looking at 2 pairs of Q05 clips- check them out at:

*Also for helping building your own rack, our rack configurator is posted above.

has anyone had car door rubber gasket stretch and split from Q towers? i have a honda civic hybrid and this is happening after two yrs. of hauling my kayak. any solutions?

              Hey Arlene,
Im not sure if this is a problem related to the rack system. If you are hauling this around a lot of salt water, that can speed up the breakdown of rubber. You might wanna talk to Honda about it. But if you're thinking its a Yakima thing. Here is their contact info.

              Good luck!

P.S- Armorall is a good rubber conditioner..I usually apply that to my doors every 6 months or so.

Unfortunately, the rubber pads are a wearable part. Ordering new ones from Yakima isn't difficult; just ensure to note which alphabet letter is stamped onto the pad before you order. Or better yet, remember which Q-Clip package you purchased should the Yakima tech (on the phone) as for specifics. Sorry for the bad news.
