Ive used the Backswing with a cargo carrier and with a 4 bike 1-Up USA carrier, and it works great. I've had it installed for about a month now, no rust or material breakdown so far. Use a torque wrench on the locking hitch pin bolt. You'd be surprised how much force you actually need to tighten a bolt to 100 ft lbs. I can now pack lots of stuff behind my Jeep gate since I can swing everything out of the way. Only a couple of minor issues, and not necessarily faults of the Backswing: - You cannot open the gate all the way because the Backswing only swings out to 90 degrees. I wish it would open just a little farther than 90 degrees. This means that with the spare tire in the way, you cant open the gate all the way. not a show stopper, but if you needed to get something really wide in the back you will have issues. Full disclosure, my spare is a 35" tire, not a stock tire; your experience may vary. If it would swing to the left, it would be fully out of the way. Some competitors make different models that swing left or right, just fyi - the locking handle is a little hard to get to with my 35" spare on the back. My bumper is aftermarket, and has a high clearance hitch, so it moves the Backswing up pretty high (and close to the bottom/front edge of the spare tire). Not a deal breaker, but its a little tight to get my hand in there good enough to push with enough force to lock it down. - Minor, but annoying. The dust cap for the lock on the hitch pin is attached with a hard tether that will not let the dust cover stay put. It pops off every time you try to cover the lock with it. This isn't directly a problem with the Backswing, but man is it annoying to spend this much money and not be able to keep the dust cover on the lock.
