    Get burly.

You're riding a big-kid bike these days, so bail on your slow, cautious, smooth-as-a-baby's-bottom tires for the fast, nobbly burliness of the WTB Breakout TCS 27.5in Tire. The Breakout's large but speedy 2.3in width and oversized edge knobs keep you gripping like a maniac when you lean into turns, and the fast-rolling belts of center tread help you keep up a good clip when you're climbing or hammering down rolling trails.

This particular Breakout comes complete with WTB's speed-oriented lightweight casing, which conforms to the ground to give you plenty of grip without weighing you down. Indeed, it weighs just 888g, which is over 200g lighter than the "Tough" version of this same tire. The TCS aramid bead lets you run the Breakout with or without tubes, too, depending on your preference.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This has made for a great rear tire. The compound is tacky but seems rather durable compared to other brands. The sidewall has held up to much abuse and low pressures. The knobs are good sized and the tread seems surprisingly fast for how beefy it is. It's a solid tire that'll get you both up and down the mountain.

    No Complaints

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I built up a new bike with this as a front tire literally a few days before the snow blanketed the trails in Utah. I got a few rides in then, and have been able to make a few winter trips down south for some more riding. I don't have a full season of riding on this tire but I have enough time to know it grips well and holds up to mountain and desert riding. The side wall on this tire seemed really soft out of the box, but so far no issues with punctures from sharp rocks etc. This tire is a good in-between for grip and weight.
