The 2018 Wilier Cento10NDR Disc Dura-Ace 9120 Complete Road Bike takes Wilier's experience crafting the Cento10 Air and its aerodynamic properties and instills a more endurance centric geometry for comfort during long days in the saddle. The tube shaping and Wilier's exclusive Barra and Stemma improve aerodynamic efficiency all while coming in at a very svelte 7.77kg. This light, responsive, and wind-cheating frame is topped off with Shimano's top-tier mechanical Dura-Ace groupset with hydraulic disc brakes giving you a bike that has tons of performance in a package that's way more capable than a pure road race bike.
The Cento10NDR mirrors the same Kamm tail design used on the Cento10 Air honed over finite analysis and wind tunnel testing. Gone are the days of narrow, long tube shapes that are flexy, heavy, ride poorly, and present a large surface area in crosswinds. Wilier employs NACA-inspired tapering rear sections of the tubes that are truncated making the frame lighter, stiffer, and better able to cope with the wind at more yaw angles. At the front of the bike, the shaping of the headtube and wider fork blades reduce turbulence around the wheels for smoother airflow.
So we're pretty well versed in aerodynamics helping increased speed at the same power input, but Wilier is banking that comfort-oriented elements can keep riders riding faster and fresher for longer. With the NDR, Wilier is urging riders to "ride faster and ride further" and with the Actiflex rear suspension, we think this frameset achieves the perfect balance of race performance and comfort. The Actiflex system lives in the connection between the seattube and seatstays. Wilier engineered a strut that consists of an aluminum pivot and technopolymer damper. Aluminum is used to house the bushings that allow the movement and provide enough torsional stiffness so the rear end doesn’t flex under power. The technopolymer insert allows the strut to compress a few millimeters to soak up road imperfections. The frame is customizable with two other separately sold technopolymers. It ships with the medium insert, but the option of a softer or firmer version make it easy to adapt the suspension to your weight, terrain, and desired ride quality. In a more old-school nod to comfort, and whereas the Cento10 Air utilizes a teardrop shape seatpost to further reduce drag, the NDR reduces road vibrations and provides a more comfortable ride with its 27.2mm Ritchey post.
Suspension aside, the other unique feature you'll notice on the frameset is the ability to work with both rim and disc brake systems. This build goes disc and while we doubt that you'll want to go back to rim brakes after riding disc, the option exists. Both frame and fork can accommodate flat mount disc calipers and up to 160mm rotors as well as direct-mount rim brakes. Special inserts at the dropouts allow it to transform quickly and safely from a thru-axle set up to quick-release. The Cento10NDR can handle wider road tires too, 28 millimeters when using rim brakes and 30 millimeters with discs.
To ensure rigidity and confident handling, the Cento10NDR is constructed from a 60t Mitsubishi high-modulus carbon fiber. The 'T' in 60t refers to ton, as in it can withstand 60 tons of pressure per square millimeter. Wilier used strong carbon fiber, because the stronger the carbon, the less is needed, allowing the engineers to strike the perfect balance between strength and weight.
Other highlights for the NDR includes the internal cable routing, which in this configuration is electronic and the frame will work with mechanical drivetrains too. The lightweight carbon fiber Barra and Stemma allows the benefits of an integrated bar and stem with a flattened, aerodynamic top bar profile but it allows for an easy swap of individual components for dialing in the fit. Furthering the wind-slicing advantage of the frame is the internal routing that keeps housing contained within the frame for clean lines and when using electronic/hydraulic setups such as this, all housing is concealed for a clean look and improved aerodynamics.
This build comes in 6 sizes from XS-XXL and in the colors Black/Red.
