Backwoods Snowboard

The aptly named Backwoods is a pow and tight tree hound for riders who love pointing it , but also ride more technical, big mountain lines as well. This versatility is achieved by taking a typical directional powder shape with a wider nose, narrow tail, and set back stance, and then throwing in a stiffer-than-expected flex. This makes for excellent float in deep pow while providing the stability needed to rail hard turns on bigger faces. Toss in a snappy, lightweight core, triax wrap, and carbon stringers, and you're set with a board that matches your aggressive riding style.

  • Freeride board that rips pow fields, tight trees, and big lines
  • Directional shape holds an edge and floats exceptionally well
  • Mid-stiff flex blends powder control with stability on edge
  • Short camber section and pronounced rocker floats and edges well
  • Poplar and bamboo core mixes sustainability and rideability
  • Durable polyamide topsheet sheds snow to keep you from bogging down
  • Easily repairable sintered base keeps you cruising all day long
  • Weston snowboards are handmade in Minturn, Colorado

I’ve had this board for a couple weeks and have been out on it 12 days. Ranging from perfect pow in the Sierra to terrible frozen suncrust in Montana. From tight trees to steep chutes to wide open bowls to wind scoured couloirs. TL;DR: Buy this board. After a few seasons on a Jones Solution 162W I was looking for something more fun, more maneuverable, and less weight. The Backwoods Split 157W checks all of these boxes and because these are two very saught after boards, most of the review will focus on the differences. Because of the tighter sidecut radius and taper the Backwoods turns on a dime - getting through tight trees is a breeze. It floats better than the Solution for the same reasons and the mega wide nose just will not sink. The smaller tail puts you in a great position in pow without having to load your back leg. The flex is more playful than the Solution which makes for a much more forgiving and enjoyable ride in all types of terrain. Great edge hold on steep variable snow and fantastic traversing ability. I've been really impressed with how fast the base is as well. I thought the marketing around a weighted tail was a gimmick at first - but after 30+ miles of uptrack, I’m a believer as it encourages a more natural (less stepping, more skiing) stride and makes tricky kick turns that much easier. The Karakoram ultra clips are bomber and seem to be standard on high end boards - but the locking mechanism on the tip / tail clips (Phantom Spinner Clips) were a big surprise for me and join the board together so well, really impressed! Weston has really figured it out with this board. We snowboard because it is fun - and honestly unless you are riding mega steep lines in AK everyday, I can’t think of why you would buy a Solution over the Backwoods Split.

The Backwoods is just an incredible ride. It's familiar enough to ride in all conditions but excels in pow. With that scoop nose and set back stance it floats effortlessly. It is speedy and jumps from edge to edge. When you can find spots to open it up and arc out big, deep turns it is a pure joy. Or you can surf it around and get into tight pockets or tree runs. It absolutely stomps off of cliffs or airs. Then when it's not powder conditions the Backwoods is a great cruiser that does all things. It's also very fun to turn switch and link big switch turns.

This is usually my go to board throughout the winter. It really excels in powder but has handled anything I threw at it. Steep lines, drops, jumps and even the occasional butter on that wide nose. I really enjoy this board especially in the trees, it’s extremely quick and nimble and allows me to feel confident especially in tighter trees. An all around amazing board and if you want something ultra light, I’d recommend checking out the carbon version. You’ll be blown away by how light it is!

This is one of the most fun snowboards i have owned. The fat nose to tapered tail allows for great effortless riding in powder so you can utilize that taper for quick seamless edge to edge fun. If you want a pow board that performs in trees, couloirs and deep pow this is what you are looking for. Not only that but ripping groomers on it is so much fun making huge arching turns. This is definitely a quiver collectors must have board or anyone looking for a great powder board. And don't let that small tail fool you because I have stomped some sizable features on this board as well. If you are looking for a fun agile pow crushing groomer ripping machine this is the board for you. Here is a clip of my bucking a 3 on the 152.

I've been riding the Backwoods for 3 seasons now and it's my go-to resort board for about 90% of winter. It makes riding through the trees a dream with its larger nose and shorter tail, while still giving me the confidence to stomp any pow drops. When we are in need of snow, this thing still rips through the crud and groomers without a problem. If you are looking for an all mountain board that can handle it all, this is the board for you!

Excellent Powder Focused Board

I've ridden this for the past the years around my local resort. Such a solid board. I must have put 150+ plus days on it and just takes it all with aplomb. From steep tight trees, to the big open bowls of Spanky's Ladder and the many bootpackable slackcountry lines we have, it has shredded it all. I find the shape to be a great mix of pow board regular all mountain board. It still has quite a lot of tail, so very solid off cliffs and thru the park. Charges through chopped up powder so much better than some more pow focused boards i have ridden. I liked this board so much i bought the split version of it too (that also handles amazingly!)
