Camano Fiberglass 2-Piece Paddle

The bent shaft of the Werner Camano 2-Piece Paddle is designed to help promote a smooth stroke and limit fatigue for paddlers who want to enjoy their time on the water, and the durable fiberglass blades are sized and shaped to suit non-aggressive, easy-cadence paddling strokes.
  • Bent shaft aligns your hands, wrists, and elbows in a neutral position to keep your arms more relaxed to reduce fatigue
  • Mid-sized fiberglass blades suit a low-angle paddling style while the dihedral profile offers low flutter and comfortable resistance
  • Smart-View adjustable ferrule features a viewing window so you can see the feather angle
  • Carbon blend shaft is the ideal mix of low weight and strength to let you paddle longer and resist damage during use and transport

Bang for buck

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Been through top-grade paddles with other names, and Werner stands out for efficient design. More of your energy goes into moving the boat, and less goes into bending the paddle or making turbulence. I'll admit I don't own the glass blade Camano, but I own the glass blade Coreyvecken and all-carbon bent-shaft Camano. I can tell you the glass-blade Werners are the biggest bang for the buck in a kayak paddle. My daughter has been swinging a Shuna since she was 12, then paddling distance and speed with grown men. (She was a nationally ranked HS wrestler) and when she was 15, I could no longer keep up with her and my top-line A/T paddle. That's when I bought my Camano and got my edge back. Advantages to bent shaft, it instantly puts your hands in the correct place, and eliminates irritation to your thumb knuckles compared to a straight shaft. I don't wear gloves with my bent shaft for days and distance.

Paddle = 5; Backcountry packaging = 2

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I choose this paddle for my 15 foot Perception Expression kayak. I use a moderately aggressive paddle style, both high and low angle depending on the environment, waves, etc. This Camano pulls a pretty powerful stroke (more than I expected from a "low-angle" blade. I have felt no flutter and it braces very well.....both high and low. I have tried other bent shaft paddles and the feel and alignment of this paddle is awesome in comparison. You get a good feel exactly how the blades are angled when needing to brace quickly. If I had to comment on a negative, I would say that this Werner "Smart View" ferrule viewing window is pretty tiny. The degrees are the equivalent size to a #4 font in a document, so I believe anyone without 20/20 vision will have difficulty reading it while needing to adjust during a paddle. Other than that, I have nothing negative to say about this paddle. It is an excellent paddle and very light weight. I dropped 1 star for Backcountry packaging. See photo. I realize the paddle is tough, but it appeared to be just thrown into a too small a box, with no bubble wrap or other packaging to keep it safe. The box was too short for the paddle length and after UPS tossed it around various states for 2 days, the paddle shafts were starting to poke through the end and looked like it took a real beating. When I received the box, I was certain this item would emerge damaged, but fortunately it was in good shape. I never had this issue with Backcountry before.
