Welcome to the freethinkers conspiracy guild.

The Edison Sunglasses are a member of Von Zipper's freethinkers conspiracy guild collection. As a result, these shades celebrate the invention and imagination of Edison. Slip on the hand-tooled frame and relax in your hammock while you think up the next great invention. Perhaps something that vaults ice-cold beers from your fridge directly to your hammock-side table.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

The Edison is a cool design concept, but the build quality is terrible. Von Zipper is my favorite company when it comes to sunglasses, but it seems they dropped the ball on this one. This model is made in China, as opposed to the Italian made VZ models. Frame seems very flimsy, and too lightweight. I wouldn't pay $10 for these.

Sorry to hear you aren't happy with these frames. Just so you know the materials are handmade acetate. They do have a different feel than the grilamid nylon that VZ used on most of their shades, but acetate has been used in very high end sunglasses and eyeglasses for decades. Acetate allows you to make some richer colors and treatments that other plastics can't replicate...that is why the Edison's have such cool colors. If you don't like them, that is fine, but please don't question the quality of the product. It is top notch.

Can you provide more details on the Proposition 65 notice? What are the chemicals used in this product?

The short answer is "plastic." California's Prop 65 list a zillion things that may be harmful from Aloe Vera to Wood Dust (seriously.) The Edison frame material is actually made from hand tooled Cellulose Acetate, which is a hypoallergenic plant-based plastic. The Acetate comes from an Italian company called Mazzucchelli, which has been making acetate since 1849...they are legit.

All VZ sunglasses use the best materials available and are extremely safe. You have nothing to worry about.

How do these fit compared to the Elmore? I have a big head and the Elmore and Manchu are the only ones that seem to fit.

These are quite a bit smaller than the Elmore and Manchu. If you are looking for something a little bigger check out the Wooster or Jeeves. They are both in the vein as the Edison, but have a bigger frame. PS the only difference between the Wooster and Jeeves is that the Jeeves has metal temples (arms) and the Wooster has acetate.
