    Open Corsa CX

    Unfortunately for those of us who revel in such esoteric things, tubular tires are rapidly going the way of the dodo, at least as far as non-professional use is concerned. Essentially, if you don’t have someone gluing your tires for you, and swapping wheels whenever you flat, it’s probably not worth running tubs. That hurts to write, but it’s true. And in place of those oh-so-smooth tubulars sit tires like the Vittoria Open Corsa CX, which is a tubular in everything but installation.

    “Open tubular” is the name that tire companies give to tires that are constructed using a tubular casing, but then attached to a clincher bead, which retains most of the riding characteristics of a tubular, with all the convenience of a clincher. It really is having your cake and eating it too.

    Like a quality tubular

    Only couple rides on them so far but they ride very nice. Paired with latex tubes these tires remind me of good tubulars. I like them a lot! I'll see how durable they are, no complaints so far.

    Sticky Smooth! But Not All Conditions.

    This has to be my all time "go-to" tire. I've tried other tires but they don't seem to have the same ride quality or cornering confidence, which is about as close to a quality tubular as you will get with a clincher. But I have to deduct one star for durability, not exactly an all-weather or commuting choice, as they tend to wear faster (less than 3k miles) and cut or pick up debris more readily than most in the wet. But if you ride mostly dry, well maintained roads you will absolutely love the performance - sticky smooth! Especially if you opt for the larger 25mm or 28mm size.
    As stated in another review; I would not inflate to max pressure, it just negates the ride quality. I would recommend experimenting with a lower psi and then increase to a pressure that feels best to you.

    The high thread count makes these tires extremely supple and smooth to ride. They also seem to have low rolling resistance based on coasting performance against other riders on downhills. Others have complained about durability. I get about 2000 - 2500 miles out of these tires. There are nicks in the tread, but nothing that cuts through the cord making the tire unusable.

    Vittoria has always been my go-to tire for the road whether is was tubulars or clinchers. 25c is the new 23c and clinchers are the new tubulars (for everyone except those who get them for free and have a PRO mechanic gluing them on). IMHO, you can't buy a better tire.

    I must have much nicer roads than so many other folks such that I get along with these tires (25mm size mounted on HED Belgium C2 18mm interior width aluminum rims) well enough to get 3,500 miles or so as a front tire, then rotate it to the rear position for another 3,500 miles before it gets worn through to the casing and I trash it.

    I pair them to Vittoria latex tubes, inflate to my preferred PSI (80psi front, 95psi rear) before each ride, pay attention to avoid debris on the road, and I have no trouble with them at all.

    Nice ride feel, great traction, last me several thousands of trouble-free, four-season, mostly dry miles, cost < $30, I'd get more if I didn't already have a sufficient stash of tires to wear out before I buy any more tires.

    I bought several pairs of these some time ago. Like most reviewers, I love them. Unfortunately, ENVE recently put out a consumer product safety alert, warning their customers about numerous sidewall failures when using their wheels mounted with tires constructed with ‘natural fiber’ casing. They mentioned a few Corsa variants and a similar Challenge model by name—any ‘open clincher’ with cotton, etc. filament sidewalls. They emphasized the fact that this is not an issue only with ENVE wheels, and even mentioned (or at least implied) that they believe any rim bead, carbon or alloy, can cause chafing/abrasion that can eventually cause failure. And crashes, which have been reported. I am going to hang onto mine, but I am going to keep a close eye on them; maybe replace them, once their normal rotation time rolls around. But they’re not training tires, so I would imagine that their tread/effectiveness, with regard to what they were designed for—racing; limited mileage—will tick over before catastrophic failure occurs. Anyway, I just thought I would put it out there.

      I have never liked tires as much as the Vittoria Open Corsa CX. I have used Michelin Pro Race 3s and Continental Grand Prix 4s and the Vitttoria’s are smooth riding and fast, I will definitely purchase again. I need to get another pair while they are on sale.

      Many years ago I used to ride on tubular tires from Vittoria, nowadays I have clinchers in my bike. This tire pattern and quality is great for all around training and even for some racing, although for a race with bad weather I prefer continental. Great value when bought with discount.

      Withholding one star as these seem to be wearing pretty quickly after a few hundred miles. Look great, had minimal trouble mounting them (there's a tiny tread direction arrow, easy to miss), and much more comfortable than the 23's that came with my bike.

      Corsa's for real...

      As a longtime non-compete cyclist Ive never been able to see the value of paying more than 30 or 40 for a tire. When I saw these on sale I thought dang I can try out some Corsa's!

      The Evos were made in 2013 or 14 and were the ones with kevlar in the mix. They got bad reviews with slippage for wet roads and didnt hold up well. Quickly dropped from the Vittoria lineup and the CX 3's replaced them with an isogrip compound.

      I ordered expecting to get the Evos but to my suprise I got the CX3's with ISOgrip. Fantastic tires. I never thought they would make that much of a difference in ride feel but they sure do. I totally understand now why so many cyclist pay top dollar for these. Not sure how well they will hold up but the road response is definitely much better with these tires.

      Only got over 300 mi on these guys before they started having chronic flats.
      Rubber is very supple... too supple. Punctures relatively easily (compared to other tires I've been running at this price). Holds onto rocks/grit/glass. Need to pick out stuff from the tires after every ride. At least they're fast, while they last.

        VITTORIA is my go to road tire. Tried many other brands and these are simple the best and the price (when you catch a sale) is just an added bonus. I have these is 23 and 25 and I also run the VITTORIA Pave 25 in the spring and fall.

        Suppleness equals speed and comfort and these have exactly that. Unlike most clinchers, they don't ride harshly and don't bang around. With latex tubes, they approach (but do NOT equal) tubular like ride quality. Yes, they wear faster than most and are a little susceptible to cuts, but that is the price one pays for ride quality. In my opinion, well worth it. Very similar, if not the same, to the Veloflex offerings. Interestingly, I prefer the Corsa Evo to the newer Corsa G + -- they feel more supple. I've been using these as my standard clincher tire for a few years, with some forays into Conti, Vredestein, Veloflex, and Challenge, and I consider these the best in performance, quality, and value.

        I expected these tires to be fragile, but they have not been. I ran them in 650c on my old Softride but got nervous because the rears wore quickly and put my trusty Michelin Pros back on. Then I bought a Cervelo S5 (an older model, the Tour de France limited) and had Continental GP4000S IIs put on Mavic Cosmic Pro SC wheels. I didn't get 200 miles and the Contis were out of round and trying to wear a hole through my frame. Admittedly, the S5 has a very close fit in the rear and you couldn't run 25s on it ever, but still, I had the right size tire and it was rubbing. I bought a second tire to replace the out of round tire and again, less than 200 miles and I'm wearing through the electrical tape I put on the frame to hide the rub marks and protect the frame from further damage.
        All that said, Vittoria is highly recommended from other S5 owners, and I know why. Despite my largess at ~100 kg, I've not had even the smallest problems with the Corsa CXs. Zero flats. 1500 miles. Truly ride like tubulars (and I remember what Clement Criterium Seta 220s felt like!). I stocked up on a few sets to last a while, but now I see the same kinds of reviews for the Graphene Corsas. Almost makes me want to try them just to see if I have the same experience I've had with the CXs.

        I have close to 2000 miles on a set of these., the wear is average for a softer compound tire. They are easy to mount and ride smooth, and corner well. I did cut one bad, my fault for not paying attention, hit old piece of sheet metal. I was able to boot the cut and rode it 40+ miles back home.
        I highly recommend these and just bought enough to use this season.

        Newbie question: Any problem using less than the recommended 115-145 psi for the Open Corsa EVO CX clinchers? I've been riding on Michelin Pro4 Service Course, 90 psi front / 100 psi rear, which is within their recommended tire pressure of 87-116 psi. Yesterday, I needed to replace the rear tire, so I bought one at the LBS since they don't carry Michelins. I'll replace the front in the next week or so, and was wondering if I can run the Vittoria's at 90 / 100 psi front / rear, which is below their recommendation. Thanks.

        I've been running them at 90 / 100 psi because I've read that less pressure / more road contact is faster, and my LBS recommended 90 / 100. This week I tried 115 / 125, and it was too bumpy on the (paved) rural farms roads I ride on, which are more torn up by farm equipment than the weather. On normal roads, they felt fast.

        I did some more searching today, and found that my HED Ardennes Plus LT wheels have a max PSI of 100(!), and that HED recommends a PSI of your weight with the bike in kilograms multiplied by 1.3. So, I'll try 110 / 120 for a while.

        Is this tire the same as the Vittoria Open Corsa CX III Clincher Tire? If not, how are they different? Thanks.

        I think the CXIII doesn't have the ISOGRIP rubber for cornering. I haven't tried the older version so I can't speak to whether the new tires are better, but the latest iteration feels superb and confidence-inspiring while slicing through turns.

        I've got Michelin Pro4 and the 23s measure 24.25 while the 25s measure 27.1 (which begin to rub the frame when out of the saddle).
