Lifetime boots

I have had my Vasque Sundowners for decades. I also have a pair that goes up slightly higher (about as high as crew socks). Both the regular height and the higher ones have excellent ankle support, much better than other reputable boots. I have had both pairs resoled at least once, back when the soles were Vibram. I do not know anything about the current soles.

Lifelong boot

Best hiking boot ever. In great condition after 20+ years. Was looking at getting new boots and am so sorry to hear about the sole issues. Keeping the old ones!

Longest lasting boots ever!

My dad bought me a pair of these boots for an international trip when I was 17 (I’m now 43). I walked down an inactive volcano in these boots on that trip, and still wear them every winter as my go-to in cold and wet weather. Aside from one of my dogs chewing up the laces, they are still in excellent condition. I just wish I could get replacement insoles for them as the original insoles have gotten worn out over time. Love, love, LOVE my Sundowners!

My Go To Boot

I have been wearing Sundowner nboots for 6 years. I wear them every day, whether I’m on my feet working in the lab, or backpacking through the mountains. I have ankle issues, but these boots provide exactly the support I need, and while it takes a few weeks to break them in, the leather upper conforms to my foot, making for a very comfortable fit. I have to buy a new pair every year, but that has always been the case with all brands for me due to rugged use and me not treating them properly. I have no doubt they would last several years for most people.

sole fell off when almost brand new

I bought these for my daughter and was so psyched! My husband had a pair in the 90's that were epic! The sole fell off my daughter's pair almost immediately while at a new job and it sucked. She was trying to make a good impression and instead felt like she had gear issues right away. Which she did. And they are barely broken in. No stars if I could because of the level of disappointment.

Completely defective soles

I bought these about five years ago and have worn them about six times. Today on a nine mile hike I lost a sole a mile in to the hike. Thank goodness my husband Noticed it on the ground. Finished the hike and noticed the other sole came off at some point-lost on the trail. Both boots completely ruined beyond repair. What a disappointment.

Fantastic and worth the investment!

I was shopping for a pair of emergency boots to keep in my car this winter when I realized that my pair of go-to boots (these Sundowners) are 26 years old! I will probably need to have them re-soled this year, but you can't get better than that. Worth every penny.

Defective sole

It seems I’m not the first to have this problem. The sole started squeaking and then completely detached, and I had to finish my hike without it. I’m afraid the shoe is now damaged beyond repair. I have never gotten these boots wet, nor do I live in a humid climate, so sole rot is not a sufficient explanation. Very annoying.

They Have Never Let Me Down!

I bought my new(est) pair of Sundowers recently and once again they have never let me down. I have been wearing Sundowners since the early ‘90s and they have carried me on trails long and short (AT-Frodo ‘97) without any hiccups. I am now saddled with Parkinson’s Disease and my long trails are over however a person in a support group of mine suggested that I wear something more supportive to literally help me walk...Bam! My old friends became my newest best friends and for probably my last pair they fit right out of the box! Thanks to all of you!

The old ones made in Italy were fantastic

I got a pair in Chicago in the 80's, they lasted for 13 years, then got a pair in Nova Scotia, they lasted for 12 years. Lo and behold, the new ones are made in China and the soles are not welded to the boot, they are glued. So I will not buy them anymore. TOO BAD!! They were great in the summer and in the winter. Loved the Sundowner and if the sole was welded on I would get another pair.
