Canyonlands Ultra Dry Hiking Boot

As dry as Canyonlands National Park itself, the Vasque Canyonlands Ultra Dry Hiking Boot has the rugged performance and weatherproof protection you need to take on the toughest trails. The waterproof leather upper and UltraDry membrane keep out moisture from rain and puddles, ensuring dry socks and happy feet during the entire hike. Its durable high-traction Vibram outsole features aggressive 5mm lugs for reliable traction and braking, even in variable conditions. Vibram also took care of the midsole, outfitting it with their energized SPE compound that won't compress or break down after a few long hikes. A cushioned footbed and a TPU midfoot shank help reduce foot fatigue during strenuous treks, while mesh ventilation ports in the toe and yoke deliver cooling airflow and breathability on hot days.

Not the quality and comfort I expect!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Thinking it is a product by Vasque, it should be a high quality and durable pair of hiking boots. However, was truly disappointed. With only 3 months of use, with 95% in office environment and a half day hike, one of its lace eyelet simply broke. From the pictures, it indicate there's a quality or QC issue whereby the material seem to have already spilt during manufacturing. Notwithstanding poor built quality, it is also not as comfortable. The leather is tough and does not seem to soften after all the walking and some exposure to rain. In addition, the top lace eyelet pinch against my leg even though the knot loosen slightly. Interestingly, the back of the metal eyelet is sewn inside the lining material which the latter material should provide some cushion from the metal eyelet. Unlikely I will go back to Vasque after this bad experience especially it is such an expensive pair of boots. The only good was its waterproof as it is made from a thick leather. It is also slightly cooler as its claimed to breath.

Could be better.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Bought this boots and it arrived well and good. Slightly heavier than my previous pair of GTX Salomon, but its waterproof and breathability is awesome. Need some breaking in due to its full leather. However, after slightly less than 3 months of wear in office environment, one of the lace eyelet broke without any warning and I have yet to wear it for any hiking or hard trampling outdoor. Now I'm worry if any of similar eyelet will break when I do wear it out for hiking. Contacted Backcountry and waiting for their advice on next course of action on warranty. I must say, I'm pretty disappointed with such a failure on a pair of reputable and expensive pair of boots from Vasque.
