The Skimo Adventure Vest embodies the light and fast attitude, with a minimalist design and enough carrying capacity for long races and big objectives.
The top entry pocket allows you to access the contents of your pack without taking it off, and nylon compression straps let you cinch down the pack to whatever size you've filled it to be. SkiMo! Not SkiLess
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I like this pack a lot! I originally purchased it for The Grand Traverse 2018. I wound up doing 3 skimo races with it last winter, and I used it countless other times. It's really easy to pack and use. I especially like the probe slot which adds a little structure and keeps your probe from getting all tangled up. The dedicated rope and crampon compartments are nice features. Even if you're using them for other items, they make organizing easy. I like to keep hardshell, heavy gloves, and an extra buff in one for quick access to warmth w/o taking off my pack.
The back-entrance is handy for quick access and keeps extra skins real warm. Don't put awkwardly shaped items in there though. It won't rest well on your back.
I do wish the bladder sleeve was a little bigger. My 3-liter bladder full does not fit.
The roll-top is nice for cramming some extra gear in if necessary, but I'm not the biggest fan of the velcro seal. My liners get caught on it frequently and it's just a little harder to access gear fast when racing and the weather is cold.
My last gripe is that UD took away the chest harness sleeves for 1/2 liter flasks. The zip pockets on the straps up front are real nice, but it's not ideal not being able to have flasks on your chest.
The ski carry system is great! Very sturdy with minimal bouncing, even when moving quickly and even jogging a bit. They stay secure and out of the way, and they can be removed super easily at your next transition.
Overall this is a great pack, is super versatile, and will definitely make your race and backcountry experiences much better!!
